Well, the CORRECT tire for a 6.0 wheel is a 190/50-17 and will fit without clearance issues. Ask me how I know. Watch out for the clearance issue between the 6.0 inch wheel and the swingarm at the brace where it starts its transition down the the rear hub. I only had about 1/8 inch to start.  :o I was able to run it for a few rides til I needed to adjust my chain and then had to swap out to a diff sprocket combo to gain operating clearance again.

You might be able to squeeze something larger on there but it's gonna change the bikes handling and most likely not for the better. I came off a bike that ran a 6.0 rear with a 190/55 and loved the handling on it. For me, getting back on a 190 was heaven. I always thought the bike was too nervous with a 180....

EDIT!: I typo'd my response.  :P I have corrected it to read 190/50-17. A 190/55-17 will fit but it is seriously taller than a 180/55-17. For example in the Metzeler line:
SPORTEC M3
Rim Permitted Width Diameter Capacity (lbs) PSI Speed (mph) Depth Weight (lbs)
180/55ZR17 TL (73W) R 5.50     5.50-6.00     178     630     805     36-42     186     6.0     13.39
190/50ZR17 TL (73W) R 6.00     5.50-6.00     190     622     805     36-42     192     6.0     13.69
190/55ZR17 TL (75W) R 6.00     5.50-6.00     187     643     805     36-42     187     5.5     15.30
200/50ZR17 TL (75W) R 6.00     6.00-6.50     200     632     853     36-42     192     5.0     13.72

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

If you quote a tire size -- quote the manufacturer/model as well.  I've personally measured 180's from one manufacturer that are wider than another manufacturers 190.  The numbers are "guidelines" and aren't strict manufacturing sizes.

example: If you took 190/55/17 rear tires from different models/manufacturers -- you will get a different mounted width and different overall height for each one guaranteed.

Probably not a question that should be asked but I'm asking anyways..

WHY would you want to do this? 190 tires are much more expensive and harder to find than a 180/55.

Well, you have to take that with a grain of salt as with anything that is manufactered by diff suppliers. But as a rule of thumb, a 190 tire vs a 180 tire with the same aspect ratio(and this is the key part) (55), the 190 is is gonna be the wider and taller tire.... It's when you start messing with the aspect ratio that things go out the window.

BTW, I re-read my earlier post and realized I typo'd my response. I have edited it to read: 190/50-17 for a 6.0 in rear wheel as the normally used size.

Thanks for the responses guys.  To answer your question, more out of curiosity than anything.  Though i do have quite a few projects for the winter, some performance based some just for looks  [thumbsup]
