I'm waiting for the insurance company to say, but I'm prety sure I destroyed my 2000 900 dark ie. I'm wondering which would be a better replacement. S2r 1000 or another 900. The 900 has more than enough power for me and I loved mine but the s2r is pretty sexy.

Does anyone here have an opinion or thoughts they would like to share with me?

Thanks in advance

well the major diff is the swing arm right? besides power.

which do you like more? DSS or SSS.

are you trying to get insurance to cover the whole cost of a replacement or do you have out of pocket money to upgrade?

red baron

1k has

fully adj forks

crappy FI mapping ;D

plastic almost dent free tank

easy to adjust rear ride height

easier chain adjustments

immobilizer

hmmm sounding more and more like the S2K is the way to go.

I have a dab to put toward either.
Both suit my riding style and sense of what a bike should be.
I also really want a ST3 but it's not in my budget so I'm planning on sticking to two valves plus s4r's are a huge are out of my power leage

hmmm
well if you really looking for a hard input as to what you should get.
give a price range.
what kind of riding do you do?
have you looked at ST2s?
are you touring with the bike?
how tall are you (important with the STs cause they are tall seats)

depends. a sick 900 is cheaper to mod than an S2R. S2R parts are more $$. but it is damn sexy!

You just wont ever be able to get that damn thing as smooth as it should be without a DPECU or Rapid bike 3.

fifty five to maybe 7000
I ride every day. To work (2.5 mi.)
Into town for chores and weekends just through the mountains what not, no I've not looked at st2's but have pretty much decided on a monster (my wife likes them better). I'm six foot and really like the monster ergos. weigh in at 165.  I have never toured but think it would be fun, but probably never will  I mod very little but understand the need for pipes and ecu, Those mods would probably last me for a year or so,

I just bought a 900S. Lots of part available. You can get a beautiful 900 for less money than a flogged s2r.

Personal preference, but I like the old style better. More mechanical and raw.

I've found mostly s4r's. Don't want 4 valves. I've got Jason and those guys looking for either an old school 900 or s2r. I guess I'd rather have a 900 but have gotten to like the sss with a
pipe change. Anyway I'm not in a big hurry since I can't bend my knee. Donnie is working on an st3, which I'd love even though I just said I wanted a two valver, also like the multi but the naked monster just calls to me. It'so simple and just what abike should be, I don't know yet but I'm not gonna jump unless something shows up that is just to good to pass up, The big problem is that 900 dark was just the bomb and I will always miss it.

The 2003-2005 is the M1000, no oxygen sensor.  I would get this bike.
