Hi
My monster is been sitting for 8 month, went to start it,nothing, the battery is good(new)
the immo light stays on and the engine light is on.Also when i push the start swith the dash light
dim.
Any idea?
Thanks

Howie

If your bike has been sitting for 8 months and has not been on a battery tender or similar device it is close to dead.  There is a huge difference between the amperage needed to light a couple of warning lights and what is needed to crank an engine over.  If the battery was not charged for 8 months it is also somewhat sulfated and may need replacement.  If you didn't use a fuel stabilizer you may have fuel issues also, but first worry about the electricals.  Start with fully charging and load testing the battery.

+1. FULLY charge that battery, even if its new. give it a good 24hr shot on a charger.

the battery tested good and is fully charged.Let me do some more troubleshooting to see if the immo is the culprid.

i guess that could be it, but i have no experience with the immobilizers or how they work....wish i could be more help. i have an older, simpler machine haha. one thing that i had happen, and i'm not sure if they continued to make the newer monsters like this, but my "kickstand down" switch bit the dust. the bike did the same thing, had all lights on, but would just dim when i hit the starter, with no noise. i ended up bypassing the switch, something i should have done way prior to that. i had almost forgotten how nice it was to stand next to the bike while it warmed up, instead of holding up it while i got my gear on haha. [thumbsup] so, if your bike has that switch, maybe try disconnecting the plug and putting a peice of thin wire in the connector holes to close the loop and see if that works. if it does, the switch is the culprit.

I think the fact that the dash lights dim is a sign the immobilizer is not the problem, though I might be wrong.  Anyway, start by locating the white connector on the solenoid.  There are two wires.  One is black and is ground.  The other should show battery voltage when you hit the starter button.  If not, the problem is in the control circuit, which includes the immobilizer, as well as the starter button (which is actually in input to the computer), kill and sidestand switch.  Oh, you did make sure the kill switch is in the "run" position, didn't you?  If you have voltage at the connector, make sure the connectors are clean and tight, reconnect and try to start.

Still doesn't start?  Bypass solenoid by jumping from big lug to big lug with a heavy wire.  Make sure the bike is in neutral.  The bike now cranks, your solenoid is the problem.  Do keep in mind, if the key is in the ignition for more than 15 seconds the bike will not crank.

In your owner's manual there is an explanation of how the immobilizer works.  If you don't have a manual, you can download one here:   http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/service/manuals/2008.jhtml?family=manuals
select the appropriate year.
