i have what i believe is a 01 900 m2 (i cant find a model sticker anywhere just a vin #, 900 on the ecu  and a sticker that has a m2 on the tail section).

my problem is my brother in law cut the airbox out of it and installed pods and it seems to bog down real bad when you get on it and there is no vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator and there is a pigtail that is just laying there that looks like it went to the airbox could this be the problem? any help would be appreciated  [thumbsup]

When it "bogs down", what gear are you in? What RPMs?

The efi system on that bike will NOT compensate automatically for additional air into the engine so if there's nothing added to increase fuel, then your fuel/air mixture is WAY off...  Adding aftermarket pipes to an otherwise stock bike *can* be gotten-away-with but barely.  When you add the pod filters, it really adds a lot of air and that messes with the mixture.

The fuel pressure reg. runs w/o a vacuum line hooked up to it so that's fine.

Is the vacant connector a three wire job with a short pig-tail coming away from the ecu by about 4-5"?  If so, then that's the stock plug-in for the ecu to be tested by the dealership so that's normal too.  Post pics if it's not....  Or email them to me and I'll look at them for you.

All things being equal, the stock air-box (with a slightly more open lid) is a damned good thing on a Duc.  Pod filters (although they look the biz) aren't the best for overall performance.

If you want to know what year the bike is, look at the 10th position of the VIN.  0, it is a 2000, 1, itis a 2001.

taking off from a light in 1st or any time you give it a hand full at any rpm

the connector is a 2 wire about 8-10" long i will try to take a pic later if i can find a camera here at work, since he cut the airbox out is there any way to fix the problem with the pods?

here are some pics of the offending pigtail

Looks like a 3 wire connector to me  ;)

Yeah, I know it's only got 2 wires in it. I don't have an FI bike in the garage right now to verify, but I'm pretty sure that's the ECU connector.

That being said, if you want to keep your pods, and make your bike perform better, get an aftermarket ECU.

I do have the same setup as your bike 2001 with pods
What do you mean by "it seems to bog down real bad when you get on it " (i am from the netherlands  [bang])

thumper1976

when take off there is a delay in the engine response that wasen't there before with the normal airbox

and i dont think its the ecu cable because there is a 3" 3 wire plug with a rubber cap on top of the ecu

You can go to a dealer and he can adjust the CO level with a hand held computer

If that isn't the ECU test cable, then there is a female connector some where on the bike that is empty or the female connector has been removed.

Their are only a few possiblities that that cable could go to:  Possibly the sidestand, the fuel sending unit, the rear break, or something else  ;D

That isn't your problem through.  Although my bike is carbed, I had the exact same issues that you do.  Under a good heavy throttle, it would bog down (almost die) and then finally hookup and pull great.

Two issues were causing my problem:  The main one for me (which is probably your problem) was an incorrect fuel mixture.  The other was a bad connection between my ignition modules and coils, which would cause me to lose spark.  It only happened or was noticeable under hard throttle.

I believe that's for your side-stand switch now that I see the length of the cable.

you should spray some silicone lube on those rubber tubes....

confirmed on the side stand switch, e-mailed my brother in iraq and he said he took the switch off

Well not to state the obvious, but you need to get an new ECU to change the fuel/air mixture.
