They will probably slow you down a little or make it more confining for moving around quickly on a MotoGP Bike and that's why you don't see the GP racers in them.  Dolph

I would love to believe these worked. Although if they did, wouldn't you see Rossi and Stoner in them?

Well Dainese has been working on the technology the last few years actually.

I can see it helping during a crash depending on the type of crash.

Eh. What if you slide out, and your body is filled with all this crap and you cant get back in the race? Those are the majority of the crashes. Maybe when they fine tune it we will see it, but right now, it doesnt look racer friendly.

I think these are more for street riding. How many people die on the track each year versus the street.

I can't see these practical for racing unless someone hand you a new vest as soon as you crash to put on and get back in the race... Or just tear it off and finish the race with out it.

Dood, " No more speed bikes. I'm going cruiser style."

WTF?? So in other words more weight, less agility, and less stopping power. Sounds like he needs more than an Impact jacket.   [roll]

I think it's a pretty cool idea and hopefully will prove to save many more lives on the street.

As for track use, you don't see Massa and Hamilton sporting airbags in F1 cars. In a controlled track environment you don't necessarily need the same safety measures as on the street.

F1 drivers are wearing profoundly protective safety gear.
It's the car they've got strapped on.

Airbags were studied for F1 cars several years back, but there are some issues.
They opted for the HANS instead.

Both completely valid points. The reason you're not likely to see this kind of technology on the track any time soon is because it really wouldn't do anything helpful in 80% or so of the crashes. At the track, even in a huge high-side, you'd be hard-pressed to land with more than 10 mph of vertical velocity. Sure, that won't feel good, but your biggest issue is going to be twisting limbs as you cartwheel through the sand pits.

Compare that to the street where there are things like ditches, guardrails, and trees (oh my!) to run into while scrubbing off speed, and cars to bounce off of when they turn left in front of you. Not that this jacket will save you from crushing your pelvis against the handlebars, but it may well prevent some serious chest-cavity injuries. The extra spine protection, especially the "cowboy collar," would also be nice.

If you watch the test video closely, you'll see that the guy is standing well up on the bike so he can dive over the handlebars on impact. With the exception of a few squids, I don't know anyone who actually rides like this.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I do!  After riding trails on my dualsport, I now instinctively lift my butt off the seat whenever I come across a hazard.(or a potential hazard, like a car about to turn in front of me)

That whole test video was a joke, I could have done the same and walked away with no injuries without thta "impact" jacket.

You know the last 2 times a car appeared to wanted to turn left right in front of me I raised my butt off the seat like I was going to jump over the car if it kept comming at me.
I felt stupid for doing this but it feels so natural  ???
