First, you accidentally posted this in the Tutorials section, which is for completed tutorials about how to do maintanenance or mods or whatever.  No big deal.   As the thread starter, you can move the thread without moderator help.  Just scroll to the bottom of the thread and find the link that allow you to move the thread to Tech.

Second, to answer your questions, yes, you can start the bike with the red key.  I wouldn't use it as a primary key though.  You need the red key and your code card in case your ECU or your immobilizer goes wacky.  So, I'd put the red key and the card code somewhere safe where they're not going to get lost or damaged.

You can get a new black key from any Duc dealer.  I think they're around $35, but I don't remember.  The key is a generic key and won't be coded to your bike.  That's where the red key comes in.  With the red key and the code card, you can program any black key to work with your Duc.  There's also someone (maybe on eBay)--someone here will have the specifics--who can take a black key and make a new black key for you.  I haven't done it, but I've seen some threads about it.

The only way to get a new red key is to replace the entire system.  The entire system being the ecu, gauge cluster, and keys.

The red key is exactly the same as the black keys in every way except for the color of the shell.

The difference in the function of the key comes from the fact that it is the first key ever used to start the bike (which usually occurs at the factory.)

At that point, the ecu learns the code from this key as the code for the "master key".  Hence the only way to implement a new red key is to replace the ecu and program in a new "master key".
