My tach plexiglass cracked. i need to replace the little disc but Ducati will only sell me an entire new cluster for $700+. Anybody know a way to replace it?

I have never heard of anyone being able to change the glass.
But He Man says it can be done. http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=14188.msg245639#msg245639

It is bonded/fused together.  I've never seen once come out without creating more damage.

options thus are:

1) carefully remove and hope for the best.  Get new plexiglass cut and use a glue to bond back together.
2) I've machined them out before after being damaged.  Then machined an aluminum bezel to make the edge look nice again.  Bonded that with plexiglass together to make look good.  Pretty easy to do.  I don't have the time to do it anymore though for customers.
3) I've machined a replacement cluster out of 6061 for the whole pod -- but WAY more $$$$ than stock plastic.
4) Last year I was going to produce a machined 6061 face with a carbonfiber back with a sleeker appearance to replace the whole pod assembly (ie: remove your internals and swap into my new assembly).  But given the @$680 in low volume (10unit/run) to manufacture (before profit or liability insurance or mold costs) -- nobody was interested.  Most anyone wanted to pay was $200 for everything. A few people were $300. Not viable to make if I know I would lose hundreds of dollars per unit to sell.

^^^^^ Yeah but what you lose on each piece you can make up in volume.    [laugh]      I have a friend who is an ME. It's a running favorite where he works.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

The favorite with some of the folks I deal with is "to make a small fortune, starter with a bigger one and kiss it goodbye"

Hey Mark,

I cracked the instrument cluster on my '01 m900, resulting in the loss of my tach and tripmeter.  I know my options are limited, and none of the digital gauges impress me.  I know 2000 & 2001 would be a direct swap, but could I use a late model(immobilizer) setup even though '01 bikes did not have an immobilizer?  When did monsters stop using the mechanical speedo drive?

2002 and newer are electronic speedometers.
