Iin the other thread I asked about sourcing oem electric wires but one of the board members suggested that I fabricate my own. I have never done wire fabrication before and I was wondering what tools do i need to DIY? Would shops like NAPA autoparts or Autozone provide wire fabrication services? What size of gauge do people recommend?

Perhaps a local automotive electrical repair place could make you a replacement.

Wire gauge depends on how much power the wire needs to handle.

As far as DIY is concerned, it may be better to get some help from a friend/acquaintance that's got some experience there to walk you through it.
It's not rocket science, but it's a whole lot easier with a tutor...

wire fabrication? Do you mean making a wire harness?

If you are just talking about making a wire that has many other wires in it.

you should be able to get away with buying the gauge size you need and using a heavy duty heat shrink to tie it altogether. There are various types of tools used to make wires. So it depends on what you are trying to make.

do you have new connectors or are you going to reuse your old ones?
How are the old wires connected to the connector?

whats wrong with the top one? if its just that top part, you could always cut it half way and just repair it with a connector on the original end and new end. it looks like youll have some problems getting that old connector of. but i cant tell from that angle...

Ah.... battery cables.  Now that's a touch simpler.  The gauge number is the size of the wire.  The LARGER the gauge number, the SMALLER the wire is.  And the reverse is true too.  The smaller the wire, the less amperage (or power) that can flow through it before it melts down.

The stock Ducati battery cables are 6 gauge.  It's tricky to find 6-gauge cables anywhere as all the automotive parts stores *usually* carry either 4-gauge or 8-gauge.  If you can't find 6, use the 4 as it's better to have a slightly too large wire then a slightly too small wire.

If you're trying to replace the positive cable pictured in the first pic....  I think I have a spare one if you want.  It's used, but likely in better shape then what you've got.  Send me a personal message and we'll discuss if you want that part.

Motowheels has a kit for 748 - 998, $35 but I dun know if it will fit the monster. Kit includes one ground wire, one wire from the battery to the starter solenoid (with an extra auxilary wire for accessories) and one to the solenoid to the starter.

Powerlet has a kit too, but that's for a starter rewire kit, $29, http://www.powerletproducts.com/product/WKT-004/298

Anyone know what Ducpainter was thinking about? the replacement battery kit made for monster?

I always eliminate that stupid connector when I rewire Monsters and SSs. I run a single red 4ga from (+) battery to the starter solenoid. THEN, I gang together those other smaller red wires from the connector into a single wire lug and then attach that to the red (+) cable at the starter solenoid. Works better and looks a helluvalot better. Add a tender tether while you're in there...

All connectors will be for a 1/4" post (just larger than the 6mm bolts used)

Also replace the solenoid to starter motor black cable with 4ga...

ok, So I just spend only 6 bucks and had these made locally from an car audio shop with 4ga wires, helluva better then spending $30 at powerlet for 6ga kit they sell.

Pretty sure he meant at the solenoid on the same lug that is on the battery side. Either would work if there is sufficient length.
