Spray WD-40 around the screws or caps, whichever you have.  If the idle changes you have a vacuum leak.

mrplease

does the vacuum leak have to do with the smell or the rough little idle thing?

the weird thing is that rough idle thing only last for maybe 2 seconds then the bike starts to run normal. there is no performance loss or anything like that. after the start up everything is running like normal...

The vacuum leak would be the rough idle. The smell would be the vapor/return hoses from your tank. Maybe a line pulled off of your tank? The trick howie mentioned works well, spray WD-40 on one part at a time to isolate the problem. Also check the fuel lines for leaks
It does seem odd the problem goes away after start up. Maybe its time to visit the dealer.

well, we'll see. i dropped it off at the dealership today...

anyway, once i get it back i'll snatch some pics of my newest mods...

mrplease

here are a couple shitty pics of my rizoma camshaft covers & rizoma rider & passenger pegs...

mrplease

well the problem is solved...

dropped the bike off at the dealership to figure out what was wrong with the clanky sound at start up. after trouble shooting awhile they figured out the problem was with one of the rizoma camshaft covers (the one i installed at the top). it seems the machining was off just on that one. while the other one fit snug this one was kind of loose. after they put the stock camshaft cover on problem solved. anyway i sent the bad one back to motovation usa and they sent me a brand new one. installed it and boom problem solved! can't believe it was something that simple. the dealership charged me $100 though  >:(

The money that Rizoma charges for their stuff... you outgha be able to expect it to fit right first time, without an extra $100 kick in the wallet on top.  Anyway, good that you got it sorted and that it was nothing major  [thumbsup]

yeah you think Rizoma would have covered that repair bill. maybe send it to them? or at least ask the question to their customer service

Looks good! So have you officially spent more on the accessories than the cost of the bike? [laugh]Does look great though. Good job!

sorry for the thread jack, im planning on a 14t and euro carbon box removal kit. i hear they are oth things i can do at home, im pretty handy with tools, not so much on engine stuff. is there a step by step for both of these with pictureS? i think i saw one for the 14t but not for the carbon canister removal.

thanks a bunch and great looking bike!

Really nice bike mrplease! I especially enjoy your attention to details.  I was planning on going out about 2 hours ago.... Then I found this thread.
