my 696 is in the shop with some electrical problems that they cannot diagnose or figure out so far(wouldnt hold a charge after riding).  they have had the bike for over a week now. :(

since i have removed the gay underfairings from the bike and moved the regulator/horn assembly to be attatched to the frame instead of the plastic they are saying that it might not be covered under warranty.

un-make the beast with two backsing-believable.  anyone have any idea what i can do about this?  i never unplugged or tampered with any wiring on the bike whatsoever.  can i fight this or what?  i feel like im getting raped on this shit.

That's complete BS. The dealer/DNA must prove that your mods caused the failure. They cannot just deny warranty coverage because you took some plastic off. Tell them that next time they start saying it may not be covered.

I'd also start looking for a new dealer. Good dealers don't try to get your warranty voided...they do everything they can to make sure your fix is covered under warranty. What a bunch of asses.

I hope they are able to diagnose the problem soon, but if they haven't found it by now they probably don't know what they are doing.  They only thing you could have possibly done by moving the regulator/horn assembly is cause a short by crimping a wire.  This should take a competent shop about 15 minutes to figure out.

I had a fuel pump go bad this summer.  It made a distinctive whining noise so I knew where the problem was.  The shop I took it to was new to Ducati.  They kept it for six weeks.  Everytime I went to check on the bike they kept asking about why there were holes in the airbox (previous owner had drilled some airbox holes).  I told them to put duct tape on the holes if they were that worried about, but fix the problem and stop worrying about the airbox.  They never fixed it.  I moved to another state.  I took the bike to my new dealer.  New dealer quickly diagnosed & fixed the problem.   My point is that competent shops diagnose problems fairly quickly and are rarely stumped.

+1 on the BS. besides, they get paid the same, warranty or not (assuming that you will pay if DNA doesnt).
sounds to me like they dont know jack...

especially with a battery drain problem..

its simple. amp meter on the ground side, if the amperage is reading above specs (no clue on what ducati specs are) remove fuses till the amp draw goes away/ into specs, then diag the components on the circuit till your prob is found. with the small number of components on a motorcycle that should be fairly easy.

there probably just changing parts till they find which stops drawing amperage.  [laugh]

now, to be fair, if something you did caused the problem there is no reason for them to cover it under warranty. They will want to collect on you if its something you caused, because warranty time usually pays crap (at least it did on VW but I wouldn't expect any manufact to be different.)

You had gay underfairings?!?  How is that not a warranty issue?

Agreed. That's total BS. My DEALER suggested I take the canister OFF because it "doesn't do a damn thing for you, other then make your bike look like shit." No joke, the tech said that to me. Then he suggested I take the gay underfairings off.  [laugh]

first off,

my post wasnt to discredit the shop in any way.  they have treated me right in every instance in the past.  they just called me to let me know that i should be prepared if it isnt covered under warranty.  i will fight this till no ends cause if they wanna void a warranty for removing that stuff then it should be voided for removing the gauge cluster fairing.  that was more involved and exposed much more electronics than this!

im going to call them tomorrow after i get off work and hopefully they will tell me my bike is fixed free of charge.  why would i want to do anything that would tamper with or have a chance of voiding the warranty.  i actually payed extra for the damn extended warranty as well.

Don't you mean "underfairies"?

Or, seeing it's getting close to Christmas, do you refer to "gay apparel", as in, "Don we now our..."?

As said before, unless your work caused the problem you are covered by warranty, besides, Ducati won't no about the work unless the dealer tells them.  If the dealer is simply informig you that you will not be covered if the problem was caused by you to avoid a fight that is fine, otherwise, BS.

One of the things held in the under fairing assembly is the rectifier. The rectifier is responsible for changing the AC current of an alternator to the DC current needed to charge your bike. It is possible that the rectifier was damaged or otherwise modified when the removal of the under fairing occurred. Have them test that component. They tend to bust pretty easily, seeing as they are simply a solid-state component.

thats what it was.  they fixed everything at no charge.

fyi to anyone that moves that thing...its got 2 screws holding it in, and one acts as an extra ground, so if you remount it using only one of the holes you have to make a new ground.
