Or, what would your advice be towards buying this bike?
I'm looking for a 695 and this one is almost like a dream (for me).

  That is a beautiful bike!!

I'd definitely ask for receipts that show the custom work has been done by a reputable shop. SSS conversions aren't something just anyone should attempt. Also get the history of the bike (ie. was it a crash rebuild or just a customization project that got out of hand ?). A lot of work has been put into it (repainted tank and bodywork, rearsets, suspension and swingarm, wheels, etc.) so there's a chance it was involved in a substantial accident which required a rebuild/custom project of this magnitude.

It is gorgeous, but +1 to Markus- I'd want to know the history of the bike. Someone spent a lot of money and effort on it, and I'd want to be sure it wasn't wrecked.

Well, the guy says he's the 4th owner but perviously bike hasn't been used much. Never crashed or anything. He did all the mods himself. Also he will include all original parts in the price above witch is pretty sweet.

If i wasn't more then 1000km and 14 border crossings (that's one-way) away i would have bought it already.
It's a logistical nightmare for now, but hopefully it will work out.

If anyone has experience or suggestions about transporting a bike around and from Italy, shoot...

No way man, not after seeing that an 07 s4rs sold for $7k.  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=14481.0     Granted this one was way way under priced but it goes to show you that great deals are out there.  When I see deals like that I wonder why in the world I buy anything new.
