Painted exhaust cans and heat shield on M696

I picked up my bike a few months ago and have been reading this forum pretty avidly ever since. This weekend I used Rustoleum high temperature spray paint to paint the stock heat shields, exhaust hangers, and both cans. It was a very straightforward and simple process. I apologize for the one crappy cell phone picture, but it's late. I can take more pictures tomorrow if anyone would like. The color isn't a perfect match for the rest of the black on the bike, but it was a cheap and quick mod so I'm happy with it. Do any companies make a good looking black exhaust? Carbon is decent, but I really like this look. And what about the rear sets (the big silver piece that the pegs and clutch and brake lever connect to)? How hard is it to remove those and have them painted? I'd probably have them powder coated. Does the bike have to be kept on a stand while those pieces are off?

Very nice look with those cans IMO  [thumbsup]

Your bike needed more black. Normally I would vote for black foot peg carriers, but after the black cans I'm not sure. Maybe, just maybe, it's black enough - dark grey could be right? Spend some time with your current mods and see what signals you pick up from your bike.

Others have had great results painting headlight parts. Are you planning that mod?

Yeah, I definitely want to paint the headlight piece as well. I looked into it this weekend, but I couldn't get the two screws out. It also looked like I could just lift the whole assembly up and those two screws would slide out of their plastic slots that they're in which would then allow me to unscrew the assembly. Is that the correct procedure? I haven't been able to find instructions that describe it well enough.

Looks sweet!
Is that an s4 in the background?

Yeah, that's my B6 S4 behind it. I used to think she was a blast to drive until I got my monster...

It's cool to see that there's another S4 and Monster combo out there. I love my car, but an RS4 would be sweet. Anyone have any tips for removing the headlight piece so I can paint it?

It's really easy. There are two bolts that hold the light on. If you turn the handles bars all the way to one side you should see a nut towards the bottom section on the back of the light, take that off. The bolt and washer is attached to the light fixture. (One of my washers came loose) Then move the handle bars all the way to the other side and take the nut off that side. The whole fixture will lift up and out. I would recommend unplugging the gauge cluster first so you have slack to move the fixture around to allow you to disconnect the lights. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.
