Because, you're asking a group of people who need to know how to pronounce "Duc" as much as they need to know how to pronounce "latte" while they are prancing in their Dainese leathers in front of the Starbucks crowd and trying to convince the world that they are better than riders of other brands of bikes.  (Reference above post)

Because, you're asking a group of people who criticize Harley-Davidson quirkiness as crappy American engineering while at the same time praise Ducati quirkiness as Italian passion.

Is it Duck or Duke?

As mentioned before it seems to depend on what side of the pond you come form.

When I first got my Duc here I looked puzzled at people when they spoke of Ducks...

All I do is say 'Ducati' without the 'ati'

It's Duck. KTM screwed things up when they introduced the Duke (I had one, btw...no comparison to my Duck).

Again depends on where you are from, Duke is not pronounced the same as Duc in the UK.

In American, it is Duck
In English, Aussie, or the other funny accented version of American , it is Duke

At least that is what i noticed.  when someone refers to a bike as a Duck, im almost 100% sure it is short for ducati.  When i hear duke, im 70% sure they mean ducati and 30% sure they are referring to a KTM.  I have both phonetic pronunciations refer to a ducati though.
