this is the ultimate derby article. lol

its pretty old, but cool everytime i look at it! i think this guy went up pikes peak with that bike and competed with "real" offroad bikes

just a question here. but couldn't you just take the suspension off .. say a bige bore motocross bike and stick it on any street bike and get the same effect for A LOT less money?

Technically you could, but you lose a lot of low end torque on an inline 4.  Wrong motor for the job

i meant any ducati street bike. so low end torque is there.

but there's still the exhaust, skid plate, bars, etc...

DIY's almost always cheaper, but some folk just want the shiny, y'know?

FWIW, there's a lot more to the TerraMostro conversion than swapping out the wheels for a spoked set.  The geometry of a street and dirt/motard bike are vastly different.  You can change from dirt to motard set-up easily as they have the same geometry, but to go from street (ie: 695 stock) to dirt/motard, you have to do some chassis work, or it will be unridable.

Well, the swingarm is extended, and the steering tube has a spacer for starters.  I don't know all the details... the guys at Overland motorcycles dialed in by making a bunch of prototypes.  They go well beyond what your average backyard wrench would be capable of, I think.  Custom triple clams, relocated footpegs / linkages, etc.  Kayaba XR650R forks, Wilburs rear suspension.  Pretty much everyone who I've let ride it (especially in dirt) wants one.  [moto]
