Got a new bike today...

1986 Honda Reflex TLR 200.
A friend of mine had this sitting in his shop and said if I wanted it I could load it up.
Not real hard to figure out what I said.









Needs work, but I figure about 2 cans of degreaser and it'll look like new.
Here is what I'd like it to look like...







Anyone ever own or ride one?
I've ridden it around his farm a little and it was a lot of fun.
They make good trials bikes. I'm not going for that exactly, but a nice little trail bike would be sweet.
I'd like some aluminum wheels with disc instead of the stock but I don't know if that's possible.

I think the spoke wheels is what makes the bike.  And besides spokes are stronger and better for the dirt because they can be trued
if needed.  Those brakes do look a less than adequate. 

It looks like an easy and fun restoration project.

Well of course he was talking about the degreaser. Obviously my post indicates that I knew that.
He could have been saying my bike need boobies. ......large boobies.

Cool project but,
I think the spoke wheels is what makes the bike.  And besides spokes are stronger and better for the dirt because they can be trued if needed. 

The wheels (Rims) are steel. I want aluminum rims and hubs with discs.
Putting aftermarket wheels on bikes like this is difficult because of the swingarm width. Disc makes them too wide most of the time. Relacing can be difficult because the spoke count is different with most new rims.

He rode it a few times a month. He was the original owner.

Nice find Kelly.  Looks like those fork seals are blown. Its a simple bike, shouldn't be hard to take everything off the frame and start with new paint on the frame. I did that to a CR125 once and it made a big difference. Once you have it all apart cleaning and paint should be a snap. You also might be surprised at the amount of stopage that drum brake has. I'm sure it is designed to get the rear wheel off the ground with little effort.

Hey  Davester, Howzit'.  I still have the 800. But it almost feels useless here. not always, but often. I hope it will be an easy job. I am cleaning it up first then when I have more time and money drop a bit of change on it.
I've read that the carburation is a bit touchy so I may need help with that.

I'm sure it is designed to get the rear wheel off the ground with little effort.

I'm hoping that's the case.

NICE!!  I have a '85 TLR 250 & a '78 TL 125.  I've used them both for trials competitions and for trail riding.  They are awesome bikes that will last forever!  My dad bought the 125 new in '78, it was the first bike I learned to ride with a clutch.  There are forums out there for them and you can still get some parts from Honda dealers.
