Gas Tank Dent!!

Hey everyone,

I just had my first laydown and yeah my handle bar is bent and gas tank has a dent. Does any one have any suggestion on fixing the dent in the gas tank ?  I have a 2001 M600 and its a metal tank.  Well to make the story short.. I was making a left turn when this dude pulls out from the other side to make his left turn-came out of NOWHERE @##$%. So, I had to make a quick stop but the bike was in a lead; so down I go. The dude had the audacity to stop and said sorry but he kept on going. My knee sure hurts like hell!

Any suggestion would be appreciated,

You have three choices:
    Live with it.
    Fix it
    Buy a new tank

New tanks are real expensive, so live with it or fix it.  Our very own ducpainter can make it better than new.

Thanks, that's what it seems to look like after reading a few other similar threads. I was hoping someone had done a successful PDR or something like it. 

Hey I forgot to ask in the first post. Is there anything I can do to straightening my handle bar? Its bent pretty good.

This really sucks, big time. I just got done putting new decals and new off center-pinstrip.

I've bent the bars on my Monster twice and on my S3 once. All you need to do is get a 3' piece of pipe, put one end over the end of the bar and bend it back into shape. Simple. As far as the tank dent I lived with mine for several years until the hinge developed a leak. I bought a spiffy plastic one from Chris at Motoredsports.  Until then just put a sticker over it.

I was able to pull a small dent with the 'Ding King'.  Results were 90%+ good.  I was satisfied.  Had another 'problem' with a tank dent / rash that required a new tank.    After much patience, I got one like new on eBay for $300 including shipping from the U.K.  I've seen them go cheaper but had already waited 6 months for a perfect red carbed tank...

I've repaired 10s of tamks over the years but since I stopped, I recommend everyone to Nate (ducpainter). There is a lot more to fixing a tank than just pulling the dent and he does everything well.

"Ding King" I guess its getting mixs reviews. I read on onther tread that it pretty useless, but I can't see why I can't give it a try?! 

You know it seems to be a common proble with the Duc Monster, did Ducati address this problem with the later models?

I am thinking about getting an clip-on, because I believe I read it on this forum or somewhere that it won't cause the dent, due to its location. Does anybody know if this is true?

Yes, by using plastic instead of metal for the tanks.

I dropped Mother's bike (it has cyclecat clipons) and put a decent ding in the tank.

i put mine down three weeks after buying her.  Cycle cat clip ons will not save your tank but in most cases you will not have to replace the clip on bars because they will not bend.  After about two weeks of crying and feeling like the dent was visible from outer space, I got over it and I no longer even notice it.   But now mine will be off to nate within the next two months.  It is the best excuse for custom paint.

I'm sorry to hear about that, good thing is you're ok.  I wouldn't immediately repair the tank, the bars obviously yes, but the tank can wait until you feel like you're more seasoned on the bike.  My first bike 99 m750 monster had a tank dent and first thing i wanted to do was take it out and get fixed.  More I rode it, less I noticed it.  Then once you're used to the bike consider fixing it.  You might want to consider putting frame sliders on, for about a hundred bucks it's great insurance on the bike and can decrease chances of tankdent.  I dropped my first bike also after about two weeks and had bar end mirrors on and the bar ends actually saved the bars and tank by taking the brunt of the force and only cost about $40 a pair on ebay,  they give great vision too.  Good luck, ride safe.

I turned mine into a feature.  My neighbor had given some some of those bullet-hole stickers.  I used them on the dent ~
