Insurance Weirdness

Hello there,
I live in SF with my monster ( it's on the rug ), and was recently the victim of a knockover by a guy getting out of the bed of his truck.   [bang]
I have a '01 750 that needed a lot of cosmetic and a new handlebar with switches.  I took it to the dealer/mechanic and they put in a great bid, over 5K, to have it repaired, which meant the guy's insurance would total the bike.  I keep the bike, I get a check, no problem...right?

Except when I went to apply for a salvage title, ( cuz I'm thinking about a 749 ) the dmv tells me there was no report from the insurance co. to total the bike.  I already cashed the check, and I see no reason to twist anybody's at the insurance place to send the report about the salvage.  I did call over there, and they said "something must have happened" and that was it.  No follow up, nothing.  I'm ok with the situation, Cept if I sell the bike, I don't want possible backlash, if the new owner somehow gets the shaft from the DMV...any advice?   ???

BTW, not trying to scam anything (the ins. co. cant' afford it  [roll] ) just want the best situation for myself.

Happy Holidays to all.  [beer] [bacon] [clap]

You tried to do the right thing. Don't get yourself worked up about it. Think of it as a gift...

Yes, but if a new owner changes the title, does it come back to him as a salvage?
thanks

First how long has it been since the insurance supposedly sent the report it. It may take the DMV up to 4 weeks maybe more.  Once the change is made the DMV should send you a new title with the correction. If not than, yeah don't work yourself over it! The new owner shouldn't have any problem with a new title.

The DMV won't know unless the insurance company reports it, right? How else will the DMV know? If it fell through the cracks at the insurance company then it might as well not have happened...

Am I wrong?
