So went to start it up this morning, and just got the dreaded yellow flashes. Tried a couple more times,...same deal.  Maybe 3 flashes?

Switched to the other black key and it started up, so I went on my way.

When I got back home, tried the other key again, and it started up like normal.

Anyone got a clue WTF happened?

TIA

Fruity

is it 2 flashes then the 3rd one permanent? did you muck around with your key housing coz the antenna is attached to the housing. when i was fixing my damper i had to remove the key housing and the antenna, i had the same problem. moving the antenna and putting it back in its proper place after that i didn't have anymore problems. sorry if it's of no help just my 0.02

Like the little spanish mechanic said to me when I bought the bike: "Doon Dropa da key!"

If you have *another* key with an RFID chip that's near the antenna when the proper key is in, sometimes the other key will confuse the situation.

No other key or bike within 30'.  At this point, I'm just gonna chalk it up as a 1 time fluke.

I'll tell you this though, I would of really been pissed off if I was somewhere away from home and this happened.  :-\

I've had the same thing happen to me.  I went through a couple of minutes of bullshit before the thing finally cranked up like it never had a problem in the first place.  There are so many different things that could keep your bike from turning over (kickstand, kill switch, ignition short, immobilizer, clutch safety switch, etc.) it's bound to freak out at some point.  I haven't had it happen since then either.

My stupid immobilizer use to do that all the time. Id pull over to the side of the road for a smoke, or to get gas and go to start it up and the orange light would blink. Id turn the bike off and on 10 times before the orange light would go away. With my bike, i figured out that i have to remove the key from the ignition after i turn the bike off. I cant just let it sit in there for more than a minute or two. I have no idea why leaving the key in the ignition when its turned off screws up the immobilizer but it does.  Ive gotten use to pulling the key out right away when i stop the bike. Its annoying, but not as annoying as being stuck on the side of the road.

If i remember correctly you can't leave the key in the ignition without starting the bike for 15 seconds - otherwise it locks out as described. You just have to take the key out - get it a couple feet away - then insert it again and start the bike.

I had that issue a couple of times back in 2003 when I had my monster.

The 15 second deal doesn't require removal of the key though.

If you turn the key, let the gauges sweep, and then wait 15 seconds or more before you try to start the bike you'll get nothing.

At which point, you're supposed to only have to turn the key off, then back on, to get a fresh gauge sweep and then be able to start it.

One time, it stranded me for quite a while before it started to work. I must have tried 20 times and different combos between leaving the key in and taking it out, turning it on, turning it to the park position, walking away from it all (before i kicked the bike over) and coming back 15 minutes later. Then all of a sudden just one more try before i called the tow truck and BAM its ready to go. So ive come to the conclusion it just has to be that the key itself is not registering right. Probably best thing to do is use another key, or have anohter one made if you have the key card. I dont have the card, so im not sure what ill do the day my key finally stops working. If i could do this all over again, i would make sure not to buy the years that had that stupid immobilizer on it thats for sure.

Also could be some trouble with the antenna located under the keyswitch shroud.
Check the connector, might be dirty or not fully connected, maybe a pin pushed out.

The day its stops working is the day you will have to sell a body part to get it working again.
