Hello All,

I just bought an 2007 S4Rs Ducati. The General Manager at the dealer was telling me that there's no red key available for this bike.
I need to know if I'm going to have any problems coming down the road?

I think the guy was not being honest with me. He repeated telling me that Ducati done away with this red key for 2007 models.
The bike has very little miles on her less than 10 miles to be total
I need some feed back if someone thinks that there can be trouble for me at some point

Thanks,

My 2007 S2R 800 came with the red key. Not sure if all 07 models had them though.

Did you get a code card?

HI there,

I have to follow up with the dealer tomorrow & ask him about the code card. Is there an differance vs the red key / code card & if so are they the same thing just an different format?

Thank you

Howie

From the '07 owner's manual, page 16, available here:

http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/service/manuals/2007.jhtml?family=manuals

Keys (fig. 7)
The owner receives a set of keys, comprising:
- 1 key A (RED)
The red key is a service tool and is part of the motorcycle’s
immobilizer system.
It contains the code of the immobilizer system and should
not be used for normal everyday use of your motorcycle.
Your dealer may ask you to produce the red key in order to
carry out certain service operations. For security reasons,
the red key cannot be replaced. In cases where the red
key is required for servicing purposes and the owner is
unable to produce it, it will be necessary to renew the
motorcycle’s electronic control unit, instrument panel
and ignition switch assembly, and the cost of these
operations will be met by the owner. It is therefore
important to keep the red key in a safe place.
- 2 keys B (BLACK)

I suggest you show this to your dealer.

Thanks for clarifying howie.

And yes, you should have a code card too. The are different things.

This is what I received in addition to my two black keys:

The '08 manual says yes.  AFAIK, the only ones without the red key are the M696 and M1100 with the Siemans computer.

Red key should be there as well as card.

note: I just looked at one the other day and the owner had "lost" the red key/card.  I immediately deducted $1500 from the dollar offer as that would be the replacement cost if needed in the future.  He was adamant the two items weren't required as the bike ran fine currently.  Then again, what do I know about Ducati's? (I didn't tell him what I do for a business)  I walked away from the deal of course...
