searched but didn't find anything that looked right.

04 620, 18,000 miles.
Changing oil today I noticed some gold flakes in the oil.  They're small, like if it squashed a small grain of rice, and very thin.  I got hold of one with the tip of a screwdriver and it was very thin, crumbled when I put any pressure on it.

It was more than just a couple flakes, maybe 10-15 that I could see of varying sizes.  I don't recall seeing this many, if any, last oil change.  Flight Cycles did my 12k and we didn't see any then either.

Something to worry about?

Thanks
Andy

Depending on the size of the flake (can you post a photo?) maybe valve guides are starting to wear?

Are you sure the flakes are metal?  Maybe run the flakes over to speeddog and see what he says.

they're shiny like metal.
they're not magnetic.

There is one silvery-looking one in that photo, which I didn't realize until I'd dug it out of the oil, but the majority of the flakes are gold-ish.

Hmmm, well, more flakes than I'd like to see, but I wouldn't panic.

Were they on the screen or came out with the oil?

Came out with the oil.

I would bet that if you remove the exhaust valve covers you will see the paint is flaking. I would guess this is just the old paint oil and heat stained.

What is that 620 got a guilded motor in it. [cheeky]

Well the Goldschlager  would fix the problem. be sure to drink a bottle before each oil change and you will not care what comes out . [drink]
