How do I remove gauge plug on 696

How are you guys removing the plug from the gauge when removing the headlight.  I could not figure out how to get the plug out but was deathly afraid to pull too hard.  I want to get the lens frame powdercoated but am having a hell of a time getting to it.

There's a little latch sort of gizmo IIRC. You have to snap it open and then it should pull right out.

The white one behind the headlight took me forever to figure out.
