SBK upgrade compatibility with stock internals

I have been pondering the SBK fork upgrade for my 05 S2R.  I recently had new springs put in my front end and wondered if I would be able to re-use those in the SBK forks?
996 forks, BoomTubes, frame sliders, CRG bar-end mirrors, vizitech integrated tail light, rizoma front turn signals, rizoma grips, cycle cat multistrada clip ons, pantah belt covers - more to come

Duc Pond put in RaceTech 38.2x36x273 .85kg springs.  I have a Marzochi front fork and after calling Duc Pond, they don't think this spring will fit in the SBK Showas.  However, when I look at the RaceTech applications wizard, it indicates the same part number for springs (FRSPS 38270xx).  Anybody with some FHE want to chime in?  Thanks

Ducati stuff doesn't seem to even be a blip on RaceTech's radar, I wouldn't necessarily trust what their app chart says.

I've not had a pair of SBK forks apart, so no FHE for ya.

Thanks.  Well, I know the racetech spring in my Marzochi is 38.2 X 36 X 273, which after calling RaceTech means that it has an outer diameter of 38.2mm that tapers to 36mm and is 273 is the length.  Race Tech says that the FRSP S38270xx is the spring for the '05 SBK.  I know DucPond put the FRSP S38270xx in my Marzochi's, so it seems like it should work.  I am concerned though because Speeddog is right Race Tech doesn't seem to know much about Ducati's.

Does anyone have the dimensions of the SBK Showa spring?

OEM Monster Showa springs are 38.9mm x 37.4mm x 378mm.

Not the numbers you're looking for, but perhaps this thread can get them all in one spot....

Bummer!  To do the SBK swap I'd also have to pony up another $110 for stiffer springs, unless I could find SBK forks from some other fat guy. Yeah it would be handy to have them in one spot since the SBK swap is common.

I realized that Speeddog's post above is talking about the MONSTER Showa.  Maybe it will work.....

Remember, SBK springs are set up for heavier bikes.  They are pretty stiff from the get go.  Then again, I am only 170lbs.
If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you.  If you can't see Chuck Norris, you may be only seconds away from death.

Yeah, SBK forks come with 0.95 or 1.00 springs, depending on which bike.

Unless you're over 200, those would be pretty stiff on a Monster.

I just PM'ed you rockaduc. Looks like we have the same bike.

I am well over 200 - I have about 100#'s on rockaduc, so will likely need a heavier spring.

If your springs were correct for you in the marzzocci forks you will use the same rate springs in the superbike forks.

Looking at the numbers you gave for the springs you have you have the correct size springs for the showa superbike forks.

too soft a rate at .85 though.

Hmmm, the 0.85 springs in your existing forks threw me off.

It'll be tough to find fork springs over 1.00.

So are you saying that the 38.2x36x273 spring that I currently have will  work in the SBK fork and if I like my current rate I should be fine?

I couldn't imagine my forks being more stiff than they are now.  I went from the stock with scary amounts of dive for my weight, to almost too stiff now.  Perhaps Duc Pond gave me the wrong rate when I called today, but the Race Tech rate wizard for that part number recommended a .91 saying to select the .85 or the .95 depending on preference (softer street, stiffer track).
