Powercommander questions

I have an '04 S4R (desmoquattro) with a Quat-D Ex-box, DP chip and open airbox.  For a few reasons, I am considering purchasing a PCIII and I have a few questions.

I assume that I'll need a "custom map."  Is this correct?

Would it be harmful to "borrow" a map for the same bike with the same chip, open airbox but a different exhaust?

Would any fine-tuning demand a dynamometer?

Thanks,
  Dave

Long time no see.  [laugh]

You'll need a dyno-map to provide the best platform.
Virtually impossible to get the large throttle/high rpm done right any other way.
Then, some ride and tweak to get the small throttle/low rpm stuff optimized.

IMO, you could borrow a map as you described, likely it'll be a bit rich due to the Ex-box being more restrictive than the typical exhausts.

[laugh]  That's what I thought, thanks.  There's a Bimota guru with a dyno in our area, but no one I know has used him.  I guess it's time to have a chat with him.

Also, check the web site. You never know, you may find one posted there that matches yours or a bunch of diff ones that have diff setups but are close. You can experiment and tweak. But a dyno is def the way to get every last HP/FT LB out of it AND have perfect throttle response the whole tme.  [thumbsup]

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

Thanks.  I should have mentioned that I did go to DynoJet's site.  They don't even list my bike, only the '07- testastretta S4Rs.

What about some of these?

Specifically the M710-503 that would still have the stock udder and with slipons be close to your backpressure level....

Yes, that would be close.  Thanks!

I didn't bother to look at that one, because I was thinking 916 S4, and I ignored the year.  It might be nice if DynoJet could get bike models correct.

I have one that came off a 05 S4R w/full SIL Ti exhaust.  Don't have a chart though, but I imagine it would be a good place to start.

If you don't need the PCIII, maybe I can find a way to get the map off it, and email you.  [thumbsup]

Thanks Theo, but I don't yet have a PCIII, and I won't have the spare cash for a month or two.

If you have the battery adapter, you can power it up with a 9v and dump the map...

Or you could buy the Ultimap U59 ECU I have for sale that comes loaded with a map for an S4R with open lid & slipons.... that would proabably be pretty close & then you would have unlimited tuning possibilities & nothing piggy-backed to your ECU.

Perhaps the local Bimota guy has tuned some Ultimap ECU's.

End shameless plug ;D

I'd rather purchase the machined adapter and cap for a tube reservoir for the rear brake master from you.  ;)

Damn, forgot about that junk!  Gotta remind me to get on that :D

No need to purchase anything, if it's got a map on it and you need a place to start from, I can email it to you :)
