Whats up guys.. im just wondering if any of you guys with the new 696 have used the parking feature when you turn your key all the way to the left..

It turns on a dim light from the center of your front head light as well as the rear brake light..

Im wondering how long this would have to be left on in order to start effecting your battery?.. also if you guys actually use it and how long we can leave it with the lights on?

.. it would definitely be nice to have on when you park out on the street for a few hours at night..

what do you guys think?

Holden

Never use it... but I wouldn't leave it on longer than it would take to run into the store and grab some [bacon]

MSF people hyperbolized that a battery would last 10-15 minutes with the full headlamp on, so... under an hour would be my uneducated guess. But you'd think they would give it some kind of auto shut-off, wouldn't you?

semyhr

My dealer told me to be careful about accidentally leaving it on so no there is no auto shut off and you can leave it on if you stop on a highway at night to take a leak :D

haha will definetly come in handy for those midnight leaks.. very tru.. usually just leave the bike running tho

Raux

where do you live and ride... leave it running huh  [evil]

there was someone else on here that had a dead battery situation. found out he had left it on all night... so i would say not all night.

maybe there is a way to have a shut off feature made that would flick the switch when the battery reaches a certain level.

I've 'accidentally' left mine on for over 8 hours and she started fine.

I came out of work one day and noticed the parking light on, I must have turned the key to far when parking in the morning.

Yea thats whats scaring me.. i walked out of somewhere one night and was like.. why the hell is my bike on.. turned the key too far to left i guess and didnt even notice.. but she started up fine..

guess just use it sparingly..

My older duc has this as well.  I have accidentally left it on once. Now I'm really careful when turning my bike off with the key. Whats the purpose of this feature?  I feel incredibly dense for having to ask this. I never use this feature in my cars either.  Why not just leave the lights on? or in the case of the bike leave the ignition on with the kill switch enabled?  Feel free to flame away. I have a thick skin and a good sense of humor.   [laugh]

Supposedly it's to keep your bike visible at night so it doesn't get hit by a car. [roll]

In Europe, most cars have a setting where just the left tail light and left headlight stay on for when it's parked with the right half up on the sidewalk (as they are wont to do there). Same thing. I doubt you would find this feature on an American bike, but I've never owned one (and never will)!

Anyway, why you wouldn't just leave the full-blast lights on is because they would run the battery down a little faster.

yeah some of the euro roads feel like 8 feet wide and they will have cars parked on them. i used to have to pull my mirrors in to get by on one road. so the lights at night help.

Funny, the other night I heard a beep coming from the garage. It was my wife coming home and she beeped to tell me the Duc light was on.
Had to be on 4-5 hrs. Fired up fine.

Yep, mine fired up just fine after I accidentally left the parking lights on for more than 5hrs. I won't want to try over night though

One reason why I've made it a habit to look back at any bike or car that I park is to double-check that I haven't left any lights on.  And people think I'm just admiring the beauty of my Ducati.  8)
