FI bikes & airbox snorkels

So, while I was charging my battery this morning, I was reminded the snorkels were no longer on the airbox.  I know this affects the way/amount of air enters the airbox.  I know with the carbed bikes like my M750, it might cause it to be a bit lean.  How does this affect FI bikes?  Do I need to locate a pair of snorkels?  Does the FI system compensate automatically for small changes in incoming air?  I have much to learn, this is my 1st FI Ducati

Bike is a 2000 900SS.  Seems to run great, as in launches forward with authority my M750 just doesn't have ~

edit:
Truthfully, I have no idea what this looks like.   :-X  Haven't had the need to look under there yet.

I've *heard* that they run best with one snorkel on the efi bikes.  But, honestly...  I tried both, one and none.  Barely felt any difference.

Sounds good everyone, I'll just leave it be and enjoy the torque!

... what exactly is the snorkel?

Im more use to the automotive side of modding and usually the snorkel is the tract of tubing leading from the front of the car to the airbox... now with the Monster, theres not really  what i would refer to as a snorkel..  ???

Snorkels are the two tubes coming off the top of the airbox lid.

Velocity stacks?
I usually associate that term with something attached directly to the carb/throttle body.

OH! now i know what you're talking about. My lid had 1 snorkel. but ive since ditched the lid. Whats the point of that thing except to restrict air?

On some bikes they actually funny air into the engine area/intake. not sure how the 900ss setup is like.

My 01 900 has a open airbox top and runs fine.

Generally just opening the airbox won't change the mixture much, if you open the exhaust as well you'll need to make some adjustments.
