Clutch plates

I just took my clutch plates out. I thought I needed to replace them but it appears there is some friction material left. Can anyone tell me what the minimum thickness is for the plates? Also, can I shuffle the plates, put the front plates in the back? What is the deglazing procedure that people comment about? Thanks in advance.

I don't know the min thickness nor have I de-glazed the plates. I do know it is best to put them back in the same order. They will still work if you don't.

The minimum thickness for the friction plates are 2.8 mm.  Shuffling the plates is done as a hopeful cheap fix for clutch problems.  No problems, do not shuffle.  De glazing is freshening the friction and steel plates with an abrasive like sand paper. Again, if you are not having a problem, just get your fingerprints off.  Bottom line, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Don't non-stock steels and frictions also have different min. plate thicknesses? I know the Barnette's I got weren't the same thickness as the stockers I took out.

I still have some friction material left. I thought I was below minimum but with that dimension I'm not. I will just place the whole pack back in the way it came out. I did notice that I have some oil in the bottom of the clutch area so I will pull the basket to see what that is. The half moon notches on the outside of the steel plates, do those need to orientated a certain way? There is one notch on each plate.

Aftermarket will have whatever minimum thickness they deem proper, and often don't publish a spec.

If there is any notch on the plates I would keep them lined up, can't hurt.  In the future, good practice is when you remove them and intend on reinstalling, tie them together in the same orientation as they were before.  Any part that develops a wear pattern should be marked  for reinstallation in the same position.  In case you don't already know, there is a mark on the pressure plate that matches a mark on the spring tower on the hub.

I kept the plates in the right order, I didn't see the notch until the last 2 steel plates. Also, is there an o-ring or seal behind the basket? I have  some oil on the bottom of the clutch housing. I believe there is an o-ring for the clutch rod on that side right?

I ALWAYS suffle and deglaze a clutch with any significant miles on it. You can use a scotch pad, sandpaper, or whatever is handy. I once deglazed the plates on a conctrete slab while on the road.

I took the basket out and found the seal behind the basket is where my oil leak is coming from. Has anyone found a seal at maybe a autoparts store? Just one of the seals is 31.99 and the other is 14.99.
