Sidestand switchythingy bypass...

Gettin' serious here... Popped the sidestand off the 1098 for track days.
Is there an easy way to bypass the switch?
Anyone know which wires to jump??

Scott,

Those switches normally work on the ground side. If no one knows which specific wires, we can test them Sunday with a volt / ohm meter.

The switch is orientated horizontally, so all three contacts are parallel to the ground!

unless the sidestands are now somehow technologically advanced...you can use a paperclip.

all the previous switches had three contacts, but only two wires, take another look and see what you got...

i think you can get in touch with office depot for that...but they only have the appropriate clips that you need at the italy locations, unfortunately.  luckily, they're only $.99!  it'll just take four weeks to be shipped here..   :-\

You can just unscrew the switch from the sidestand, turn it (like a knob) where the center would be if it was still attached and the kickstand "up"... run a zip-tie through the middle (to ensure it doen't rotate/vibrate) and tie it up.
That way you have not unhooked anything.
I think it is a 6mm or 8mm screw in the middle of the kickstand to remove it.

what I did on my race bike was, split the cable and made them contact each other... just continued the circuit.

Thanks James. I just thought, well, if someone ever wanted to hook that switch back up...

Do you remember if you had two ot three wires?  Did you connect the Green and black wire together? That is my guess but I have not put a meter on the harness to check it.  The circuit is normally open and the sidestand contacts and closes the circuit, basically grounding it.  My only concernis that the Neutral indicator light on the dash is also part of this circuit. There could be a potential current draw, unless a diode is put in-line on tne Neutral indicator light wire, which I am guessing is the third wire in the harness.  Again, I have not confirmed this witha meter... yet.

you can always un-twist the wires, I cut 1/3 into the wire so if I needed to put it back to the kick stand you can... just had electrical tape on it.

Yes its 2, green and black, just splice and tie-together... there wont be any issues, no groups, no potential current draw, nada... I can show ya on monday if need be, but its not necessary to even do this for a track day... the kickstand doesn't fall or anything...

True that.
If you drag the kickstand in a turn on a 1098 your going to scrape the paint on your helmet too.
