Yea. No make the beast with two backsing shit is right. 18 months, then probation & paying out 8K. Shit. For triple over the alchohol level and triple over the speed limit and killing someone. Now that's a serious message to send. How's that compared to just being caught in a DUI roadblock where you don't even have to be at the limit and you lose your license, get hit with a fine, and get an SR22 for 3 years. Just doesn't add up.

Of course they never have prosecuted the lady driving the pickup on Kalanianaole (speeding at 65 mph I might add) who suddenly swerved over 2 lanes and hit (killed) a bicyclist.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

I was SO pissed when I read this!

I'm normally not a violent or terribly aggressive person.... but  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Man, I can't even bear to watch the news anymore.  There's a reason it's called the "criminal justice system" . . . because they're the ones receiving all the justice!  Think about it.  Someone commits a crime, you the tax payer are required to provide him/her with a legal defense.  What support (emotional or legal) does the victim get?  Nada damn thing. 

This is the second time in may be a month that I've seen one of these types of cases here in HI.  In both cases the defendants said they'd trade places with the victim if they could.  I'd hand them a revolver with 1 bullet and say, "Do the right thing then".

so a longer story this morning...

defense argued that she was genetically predisposed to alcoholism because her father's native american, and that "she's never been in trouble"... um, what about the 2005 DUI?

and that the same sentence was handed out to that kid in... waimanalo? that killed the two women in a DUI accident

IIRC there was a stat (as much as you can trust statistics) that hawaii is really, really high up there nationally in DUI-related fatalities.... you'd think the lawmakers would look into tougher sentencing in order to stamp that sort of thing down, eh?
