I dropped by AMS Dallas this afternoon and was told that there are 4 private trackdays posted on the AMS site.  I'm going to plan for the April dates.  Anybody else interested?

Did I miss where it says which track?  I'm going to see if I can make 3/26 and 4/23. I'm more certain about 4/23 than 3/26

Can't make the 12th, but the other days are a possibility. More likely in April though.

So everyone knows which track this is or are we all just going to assume MSR-Cresson?

Yep, it's MSR Cresson.  I can't make any of the March dates due to work schedules, but April I hope to make at least 1 of them

I'm going to try 1 just to see whether it's really all that much better.  $250 for a track day is almost double the cost.  If it comes with solid instruction (including video, etc.) then this may be worth it.  Otherwise, I'll just spend a little bit more and get Ty for a private instruction day split with 3-4 people and cost will be pretty close.  I believe AMS is doing this on an MSRC member day.  Anyone familiar with the format and how it differs from a regular track day?

From the one I did last year, it's a member day and it's pretty much just the group that goes out with Jeff.  We had 12 bikes out there including Jeff and Derrick.  We were splitting track time with the Mazdas (cup cars?) and then later the open-wheel cars.  We got in 6 solid sessions in at about 30 mins apiece.  It wasn't busy as the normal AMS trackday, but pretty similar.  I think they do video you on the track now, I saw Jester watching his at AMSD one day.  There's enough time between sessions to pull on Jeff's ear with questions and ask for a follow/lead.

Carlo, I think since you're a member at ECR and can get private instruction from Ty at a price w/ a few others, the AMS day may not be worth it to you price wise.  I hope my quick recap of helps

Thanks for the recap.  I might try one to see what it's all about and then figure it out from there.  From a value standpoint, it's probably not, especially if you can get a Ty Howard lesson for close to the same price and only 4 students. By the way, you don't have to be a member to get lessons from Ty - though you do have to pay for track fees also. As AMS fees include the track fees, Ty's still a bit more expensive, but you get more.

If you are talking about a normal track day with just getting the opportunity to ride around, then it's not a good deal for me, especially with my ECR membership.  I can also get on the MSRC guest list pretty easily since most of my friends are members there...BUT sometimes, it's just fun to go out with a different group.

By the way, since this is done in conjunction with a member day, do members get to run the track with the AMS people?  Just curious if the Euro-only bike rule can be enforced (they can do this if they have exclusive rights to the track sessions, but if not, then there will be non Euro bikes running...). For a full day event, I'd like to bring both my bikes and I do try to do more learning on the SV (that's what I bought it for!).

Later!
