The Google Group thing sounds promising. I've never tried Picasa but I've heard good things about it... So which ever one is more user-friendly would get my vote.

Ok I got it setup. You can submit photos by Cell phone or by email. They will go to a temp folder until I move them to the DFWM folder

Here are the instructions.
Compose an email containing a photo to haywyre@email.smugmug.com.
Type 2580 into the subject line.
Type the photo's caption into the body of the email (optional).
Send.
