problems with rubbing/chafing on tank and frame

I have several areas on my scoot where parts are rubbing together and wearing through the finish.  On my tank, where the seat makes contact, it's worn through the paint, primer and well into the plastic. I need to protect these areas from further damage.  I've seen reference to 'helicopter tape' a couple times, and I'm wondering if that's a solution.  I've found some anti-chafe tape at http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/cs/tape_antichafe.html and I'm wondering if someone can verify that what I'm looking at is the right stuff.

You can find foam tape at the hardware store. It comes in differant widths and thicknesses. The tape is used for weather sealing. Camper shells, window frames, A/C units. Works really well, and its pretty cheap for a roll of it

For wear areas which can't be seen my way is to cut out a suitable shape from a strip of black synthetic rubber sheet and glue a layer or two on, then let the rubber wear out

Visible areas are a problem, but I try Scotch Heavy Duty Clear Packing tape 3M 3120 first

Better yet, go to a boat store and get the same stuff but made of neoprene.  It holds up longer against wet and weather.

The 3M film is adhesive backed and permanently installed.  I haven't used it personally but have read good things from many who have.

The Tankslapper is just a cling film that can be taken off and re-installed whenever you like.  I used some of the Tankslapper film on the tail of my Kawasaki when the cover started to scuff the paint.  I also put some on the tank near the seat.  The stuff was magic.  Went on easily, stayed on, was basically invisible, and worked as advertised.  I liked it too because if you screwed up the install and got a bubble you had as many tries as you needed to get it right again since there's no adhesive.
