I wanted to love the EXO-1000

I thought I wanted to buy the EXO-1000 helmet but I guess not. During my summer jacket shopping journey today I saw that the store I went to finally carried the 1000's.
I read all about them online and what sold me initially was the flip down the sun visor. I was tired of switching back and forth when I rode.

I grabbed a helmet in my regular size and put it on. OUCH!!! There were two pressure points that jammed in at the sides of my head. There was no way around it. I'm glad I had to opportunity to try it on versus ordering it "fit" unseen. I guess my head wasn't made for the EXO-1000.

My RF-1000 is great and fits me like a glove. I wish there was a better way to flip back and forth between clear and tinted.

The biggest thing that turned me off about the EXO-1000 was the cheek pad system. Is that still on all of them? That's the main reason why I went for a 700 instead of the 1000. It's loud as hell though.  >:(

There's a flip down visor on an HGC closed face helmet now.  I think I may get that one next as my daily rider helmet.  I often go to work in the sun, and head home after dark...  My amber visor isn't great in direct sun, and my tinted visor is trouble at night.
Catching a yellow-jacket in your shirt at seventy miles per hour can double your vocabulary.

The only think I dislike about the 1000 is the weight.  It's heavy, but the aerodynamics save it.

Though the 1000 is quite heavy, you don't feel the weight once on, and, as pompetta said, the aerodynamics are great.  Loud though, makes my Arai RX7 seem quiet.

Although I have heard that earplugs sometimes make helmet comms work better by funneling the sound straight into your ear, I'd rather not, and without them I can't hear my comm over 50... Or even over 30 while I'm gunning it.

I don't wanna press the point too much, but try other ear plugs -- there are at least a half-dozen kind.

i wanted to love the exo-1000 also, but it the padding felt hard, i want to give it another chance sometime, but ill also check out the HJC

btw schuberth also makes a helmet with a flipdown vison, i only know bc my grandfather rides with one, although his is the modular flip up face, so im not sure if they make a regular shell with the visor

HJC

and it seems schuberth does make a regular helmet with this visor

and heres the exo just to give a visual comparison since there hasnt been a pic of it yet

I don't know if you've seen a Schuberth in person, but IMO they are by a large margin the ugliest helmet made.

That said, if it fits you best that's far more important than aesthetics.

Ahem....  [laugh]    The previous model flip ups didn't look very good though, but they changed. Mine is the R1, check out their S1 Pro [thumbsup]
All models have the sun visor. Chin wind guard and nose/breath deflector are accessories.

+1 my grandfathers is ugly as sht (dont tell him i said that) but stopin times is actually fairly sexy. i am definitely going to look into this helmet as a more comfortable exo-1000 alternative

I ended up going the 700 route too.  Wanted the 1000 for the flip down visor, found I didn't like where the bottom edge was, it interfered with my vision.  HJC has two helmets with sun visors, they've got a new one out this year, the IS-16, looks like it goes down further.  Also, it has 3 different positions.  Got to find someone who stocks these & try it on.....

since ive come to hate the exo-1000 i wanted to get a hold of a HJC, but they only offer solids and crappy graphics on the "sun-shield" models.

i believe the models with retractable "sunshields" are only models fs-10 and is-16. very unfortunate that the fs-15 doesnt come with one, as it has all the nice shiny pictures!
