Mini review: Alpinestars Reflex knee armor

I ended up returning the Rockgardn knee armor and replaced them with a set of Alpinestars Reflex knee armor. They were under $30 at my local outfitter.

The Reflex armor covers the shin area as well as the knee. My boots already provide shin protection so now I'm double covered. I thought having to tuck the Reflex knee armor under my boot was going to be uncomfortable. They are not..
The knee armor also relies on the jeans/pants to push the knee cup against your knee when riding. When you walk they flop against your knees a bit. It's not a problem at all. It just feels funny.
I will have to note though in order to wear this setup you will need "relaxed" fitting jeans otherwise you'll have a problem sliding the legs over the armor. This only applies if you wear full coverage boots. You should be fine with regular cut jeans if you wear low riding boots.

I did a quick 15 mile ride today and they stayed in place. I also did some walking around the house without any problems. Worth the $25 I spent. It's super cheap insurance against nasty knee and shin injuries.

Don't laugh at my leg.  [laugh]

cool beans, I might have to look into a set.

+1 Got the same ones for about a year now and I like them too. Quick and easy to get on under jeans, decent ventilation in the heat and at a reasonable price. I can also attest to their stone deflecting ability. Yes, atgatt people under my frickin' jeans.

It's definitely good stuff. I did a 106 mile ride yesterday and forgot all about them during the trip. A car at one point kicked up a rock and sent it flying right at my shin. My leg was saved from pain by the Reflex guard.  [clap]

They are the Desmo boots. I did a mini review of them as well last year.

I don't know about that. It may feel fine and stay in place while riding, but what happens if (when) you hit the ground with jeans on? What will hold it in place then?

I have no idea. Something is better than nothing. I'd rather have it strapped to my leg than stuffed in a pair of riding pants that are loose.

I can't remember where I saw it but there was a picture of the EVS knee armor (similar to the Reflex) post wreck. The guy's knees were fine.

Edit to add: Okay,  I was browsing on my local boards and one guy vouched for the Reflex knee armor. He knows of three guys that went down with them. They stayed in place. YMMV.

As long as you're comfortable, that's all that matters. For me, I wear the ICON Field Armor. Three calf straps, one knee strap. They were, however, about twice what you paid.

I edited my post above to add a comment. It should be fine. I hope I never have to find out.

That's good. I hope they work out for you if you are ever unfortunate enough to test them out...
