Ding Ding Ding  We have a winner.

I'm setting here at the studio with one of the cops I'm coaching, & he said that's the # you would see, but he HIGHLY recommended we not try it out, seeing as most of them in Abq. area are set up in 25-35mph zones.  He did promises not to give you a ticket right then, that the judge has to give you one that large after a couple of weeks in jail & your moto leaning against the wall in the impound yard is released & your insurance company drops you.

FYI: He owns a ZX-14 & a BMW dual thingamajigger somethin' somethin'.

And no, I didn't tell him about our forum...I'm dumb...not stupid.

The way I see it, If you need to "see" if your bike will break a hundy on a straight road ...Your bike sucks.  ;D

Wadda ya mean, Los.  Nobody has PROVEN it yet!  Anybody who'd take the word of a Police Officer over good old-fashioned hard earned experience is just naive!  Humph.  I think we should revoke The Los' Hooligan card.  Period.  End of statement.

THE LOS.  LOS  hummmmm.  LOs?  wha'.......  Los....the los.  LOS....errrrrrrrrrrrr.....LOS....er.  That's it.  THE LOSer.  And to think....I used to like you, Carlos.   ;D

As to my Little Dinosaur, KB, what do you mean?  I keep Little Rex tucked into my ..... wait .... you're talking about the bike, aren't you?  Opps.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

OK!   OK!     The contest is…..like over!!!    [roll]    We have winners and we have people who are now better informed.

First of all “LOS” is correct.  The max that can be displayed is 99 mph.  However, there’s more information on this topic below.  “LOS” gets a brew for the best guess.   [drink]

Second, KB gets a brew for the best attempt at good technical information, even if it came from a cop!..  What did you have to do to get that info KB?    [drink]

Now for more research results, this data comes from an independent contractor who tested the various theories on five of these signs.  Some were in low speed zones (25-35 mph) and some in higher speed areas (55 mph).   [coffee]

There are many manufacturers of these signs and many agencies that install these things.  As it turns out, some signs can be programmed and some are simple speed readers.  The five tested signs produced the following array of characteristics.   [popcorn]

The California signs encountered were all simple speed readers that go up to 99 mph.   [thumbsup]

The four NM signs tested were of the programmable variety, but they responded differently.  All of these signs are solar powered and radar activated.  All signs show your approach speed.  All will flash for speeds above the posted limit.    8)

…..BUT….when you exceed the posted limit by a given amount, usually 5-10 mph then three signs stopped giving a speed reading and began to give a warning message.  In this case it was a polite “Slow Down!”  …..I suppose it could have been something more direct such as Slow Down, You Dangerous Asshole!”     [evil]

At the next level of speed above the posted limit, 10-15 mph, the signs went blank.  The reason for this is probably is to discourage stupid behavior and meaningless research.  So… if you see a blank sign that may mean that you are way over the limit or perhaps that a local has used the sign for practice with his 30-06 deer rifle or his 40 cal Glock, side arm.    ;)

No flames were observed on any of the tested signs.  The only flames seem to be on the Forum!!!   :o

There you have it.  No need to risk your hide and license…..   [leo]    [leo]  The nameless and shameless independent contractor has done the research for you.

Now for the awarding of the prizes…. I have delegated this duty to the independent contractor.  His team will find YOU at an appropriate time and place and give you your final reward!!!.....  [beer]   All you have to do is wait…  I would expect this action to occur on a future Tuesday evening.

Merry Christmas! and to all a good night!     [clap]     [laugh]
