Just saw this:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/19/2574601.htm

Between the speed cameras, the internet censorship, and now this you guys must feel like you're living in Singapore these days. How many of these devices do you think will be littered along the highway as people get frustrated and throw them out the window?

Typical Guvment Bullshit!!

They keep up with the Bullshit Story that speed is the biggest killer on the roads, and time and time again, the figures come out and it's not!
The Qld dept of Transport admitted a few years ago (after one of the Brisbane papers did a insider Story on Qld Transport) that if a road crash cause could not be determined then it put down as speeding, they got caught fudging the Statistics to make speed out to be a bigger issue then it really was, All to Justify more Speed Cameras!

And it amazes me how many people keep swallowing this Bullshit fed to them about the Myth that speeding is our Country's biggest reason for Road Deaths. Just read some of the Ill-informed comments below that Story on the link listed above.

If they spent more time and money on Traffic cops driving highway Patrol cars cruising the beat and not sitting on there Arse behind a Speed Camera, Get out there and pick up people for illegal U turns, not indicating, poorly maintained Vehicles,  inattentive Drivers (the list goes on and on...)

And people wonder why I don't vote anymore... >:(

dragonworld.

Not concerned about losing revenue on speeding fines!!  :o

What a crock of steaming, straw covered half digested horse shit!! [roll]

That'd be why I reckon they wouldnt "really" be super enthusiastic about the limiters! How would they then be able to afford their junkets and rorts??  [roll]

Geeez it'd be nice to have a "Bill Of Rights" !! Then we might have some sort of chance to give the middle digit to these poof dahs. [evil] >:(

We have a Bill of Rights here, but that doesn't stop the [leo] from writing bad tickets.

so,
I'd like to see these things keep up with the different speed zones here in Sth Aust.
You go from 50 to 60 back to 50 , turn off into a side street and your into 40 then back to 50 or is that 60 arrrrr shit I don't know????????????
I does my head in.

Anyhow I think it's also a lot of horse shit.
Guvments with too much spare time on their hands.

Guys, I think there might be a bigger issue here.

1. The device pings satellites to determine the vehicle location (and the speed limit for each location is known).
2. If you ping once per second, say, you get TWO different vehicle locations per second => can calculate Speed.
3. This allows you issue speeding tickets across continental australia.

The limiter (which can be switched off) is a trojan horse to get get a gps tracking system into vehicles. >:(

A device fitted to the dashboard picks up information about the speed limit on the road from satellites. A warning goes off if the motorist exceeds the limit. And if the driver continues to ignore the warning, power to the engine is cut.

Rowdy

The operative word here is speed, not speeding. Excessive speed may still be under the speed limit.
You greatly underestimate the amount of overconfidence I have.

Right. But the point about "excessive speed" still stands. And for most [leo] speeding tickets are their only way of curbing excessive speed...no matter how ineffective it may be.

it will be the same front number plates  [thumbsup]

God forbid the government might try to do something about driver education. If they really want to cut down road accidents and casualties, we need BETTER drivers on the road, not more-regulated ones.

It's not hard, all we need is people need to use their indicators, drive a less selfishly, show a little courtesy to each other, and stop multitasking driving with other things (phonecalls, text messages, map reading, make-up etc.).

The only speed governor I want on my bike is the rev limiter.
