Termi DB Killer -- tight fit?

Hey,

So I bought the DB killer for my Termis. It's very hard to fit into the pipes. Is that normal? It seems like I would need to grind the baffles a bit to get it fit in properly? I couldn't even get it in far enough to put the holding screw in. Any thought?

Would it fit better if the pipes are hot (metal expanded?)??

i dont have termis but putting the db-killers in was much easier when i got back from a ride with hot pipes.

When/if you're taking them out the heat advantage will be gone.

My two trackdays with db-killer requirement was difficult - I ended up tapping them in flush with the pipe outlet, still 3-4mm from being able to put in the bolts. They stayed in the whole day and were relatively easy to pull out. My friend put his in all the way and wasn't able to get them out. Some people end up taking their cans off and removing them from the other side, by banging a broom stick through the pipes.

Grinding might be a good idea.

Put the db killers in the freezer for awhile then go at it....

Yup its normal, mine are tighter than a fish's anus. You say that you just ordered your db killers, dont happen to know the p/n do you coz I've cut mine down so much that if I'm...um.. ever required to present myself for a noise test......be nice to have some full baffles to put back in there.... Cheers.

On the package, the part # is 96028309B. I got Commonwealth Motorcycle to get it for me. Aldrin is great to work with. It took him a few days to figure out the part #. I can't find it online. $45.40 per each is not that cheap but it's pretty well made it seems.

I put the db-killers in the freezer overnight, then heated the tips of the cans with a paint stripper heat gun. But first I cleaned the end of the can with a drill and a wire wheel to remove all carbon buildup. Do not use any wd-40 or any other kind of lubricant because it acts as a heat transfer agent. Clean both the pipe and db-killer well before subjecting to heat and cold

Damn, and I thought I got wrong part... I had Leo Vince before for my Multistrada and that baffle pops in and out so easily. I was so surprised how hard it is to get this one in and out.

i'm going to try grinding it a bit. I don't have the wire wheel but can try that too.

BTW, if I want to adjust the volume, how much can I cut down the baffle tube? 1"?? Does it get louder the more I cut?

Pretty well made? When I first saw mine I thought they were a rather shabby piece of throw-together.... so I punished them with a hacksaw

Yeah, not cheap. But the cuts were plasma cuts and the welds are spretty strong if not overly pretty. It's going inside anyway, not a big deal. BTW, how much did you cut off? I'm just wondering how much noise adjustments I can make it.

OK, so I did just that, grind the baffle a bit, fit, grind some more... Perfect! It now slip in / out w/ a little wiggle. Still slightly tight. I have to play around using needle nose pliers to get the bolt hole to line up. While I'm at it, I also sanded and painted the baffle "exterior" flat black w/ the usual BBQ paint to make it less noticeable behind the bike. Looking good. I'll try to get more pic outside when it's daylight out.

Today's ride I stuff in one baffle. I really like the level of sound. Maybe it's slightly too quiet, but it won't wake up the neighbor as badly as before.

Maybe I won't need to cut it afterall.

Looking good so far. Left = no baffle, right = baffle. I may leave only one in, so hopefully the black paint makes it look less weird.

Lemme get this right.... you have the baffle installed in one side but not in the other side? Me? I wouldnt do that.... either both in or both out. Or both in with around 1" removed (or however much amputation is required to achieve your desired sound quality

).

I love the sound with no db killers but I did feel a little anti-social. And yet with intact db killers fitted it sounds just as tame as the standard cans

. So with my ...um... adjusted baffles I can still enjoy the essence of the liberated full-noise but without the guilt... and I can show the nice

I'm not exhaust expert but we got 2-1-2 system. I highly doubt that's would be an issue due to the common pipe in the middle. I have run this setup w/ my ex-Multistrada for months, no issue that I can tell. Any expert can chime in.
