What's "creep?"

slack in the trigger before it engages the firing mechanism. firearms meant for accuracy have none or very little.

I took my mosin nagant out today for the first time..

it was starting to snow so I didn't wanna stay too long but  [evil] its kind of a beast.

for some reason it is pretty hard to cycle the bolt, the fired shell is sticking in the chamber.. but I measured them after and I don't see a whole lot of expansion. don't know why it would do that. ???

I've had this happen with my Mosin. Varies from cartridge to cartridge, so at least in my case I'm guessing that shoddy east-bloc quality control is to blame.

I think there's more to it than that. I think of the trigger as having four distinct movements, or actions, only one of which is the 'bang-switch' movement:

1. Pre-travel or take-up. The movement before the trigger is doing any meaningful work in releasing the hammer/firing mechanism. Even my high end triggers have this to some degree and I don't think it affects my accuracy.

2. Creep. Things are beginning to move in the trigger group, but its a somewhat vague feeling, I'm applying pressure and things are travelling, but its not a movement you want. Gritty feeling creep is the worse.

3. Break. Crisp 'snap' feeling where the trigger sets everything into motion - the hammer/etc is at this point free, kaboom occurs.

4. Over-travel. The amount of movement after the meaningful break occurs that the trigger move. The bullet has fired, but the trigger can still move farther backwards.

That's a very general description of how it works, as I think about it, without naming specific parts of a firing group, as that varies from gun to gun. #3 is the most important, and you want as little of #2 as possible. I also am not a fan of very much #4, and that's quite easily adjusted on several firearms.

...without the snap of the Romanian's single-stage.

I freakin' hate the trigger slap of many of the AK variants (WASR and MISR). I believe its on the disconnector, a person can dremel of the back extraneous portion that is absent on the higher end firing groups. Or get a Tapco kit, which is inexpensive and cures the problem without you having to do any work yourself. Done this on two of the Maadis, and its made them loads more fun to shoot.

Ok, here is the Saiga 12gauge with my current round of mods:

1. Telescoping M4 style stock (easy to remove stock, took some drilling to install current)
2. Replaced forend with an aftermarket piece that has 3 sides of picany rails (as you can see I used the underside one for a handle, which I had on hand)
3. Quick detach mount with picany rails for a scope. I put a Tasco red dot on it, well, just because I wanted to.
4. I bought a remington sling for 9$ at walmart which seems great. Just need to mod out a piece on the pack so it clips on. A key chain "holder" seems to be the ticket.

Enjoy my ultimate home defense weapon. If I need more than 10 semi auto 00 buck shots, I should have grabbed my AR-15.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

Would totally love to shorten the barrel, but I don't want to hassle with all the paperwork to get less than an 18in barrel.

I'd rather with hassling getting a silencer for my M4

How far above 18" is it now? If its 20", I'd cut off 3.25-3.5" and thread the end. That puts you within the allowable length, and provides you with the opportunity to put a more persuasive end on it. Also, modding things is fun.

whackie

here's my addition. i have 2 other glocks that are not in the pic, 19 n 22. one of the 9mm in the pic below is the bf's.

Some nice hardware in this thread!

I shoot skeet, trap and sporting clays with my Beretta 682 Gold E sporting. Nothing fancy or particularly unique but it's a versatile shotgun (adjustable comb, interchangeable chokes), has really good balance, and I can shoot it all day without getting too tired.

It is currently 18" which I believe is the federal law on barrel length, isn't it?
