Is an 848 in my future? Switching from S2R800?

As much as I love monsters....An 848 is in my future.  I'd go for it!  [thumbsup]

Ms. Inc, now that I think about it...I think you're right.  The question is...what makes the man, the clothes or the bike?  Clothes would be significantly cheaper for me than an 848.  Some insight on this would be great!  [laugh]

why not get both?  I did.  I kept my S2R800 for the long long rides and days where i just want to cruise.  I have the 848 for the 'other' days!  [evil]

Lately, i've been having a lot of 'other' days....

I just got my 848 after having had an S2R1K and as much as I loved my Monster, there is no comparison in the two scooters. I will absolutely get another Monster before too long but if I could only have one then for me it would be the 848.

I got used to the riding position very quickly, the bike feels like an extension of me. I no longer feel like I am sitting on a motorcycle, now I feel that I am part of the motorcycle.

For me the best analogy I can draw is this. I had a Honda CRX that was heavily modified, replacement high output engine, lightened wheels, coil-over suspension, programable computer. It was a great car, fast, fun and everything I thought I wanted, until, the wife conned me into test driving a Honda S2000. I bought it that day. No matter how much I did to the CRX, it would never be the S2000. Those 2 bikes are the same way. Now you just have to decide what it is you want. If the riding position really is problematic then it is a no-brainer, you stick with the Monster, otherwise, like I did, you have a real dilema on your hands.

And don't worry about the girls unless you are a latte drinking Ducati rider. You will be going way to fast for them to get a good look at you  ;D
All my best ideas get me into trouble.

+1 ... I agree one hundred percent. The 848 is perfect for me. Although, one girl in the office liked my S2R better. Most of them like the 848 better. To me... I only care about how they ride.

The 695 was my first bike and I really enjoy it, especially with the new exhaust.  It's perfect for city riding - light, agile and quick.  I also bought an 848 a few weeks ago and it's an amazing machine.

Unlike others, if I could only have one bike it'd be the 695 since it suits the overall majority of my riding better.  But it'll be a cold day in hell before I give up either of them.

Sugarcook that might be true if I was going to stay living in the city but I am moving to rural northern Alabama, 3 hours from the Dragon and a lot of really good riding all around, so since I can only have one right now it is the 848.

And that's a great choice.  :)

My gf's family is coming into town this weekend and my 848 will see some serious love.

I went a very similar route, except for the fact that I bought a Triumph Daytona as my fun bike instead of an 848.  I was really interested in checking the 848 out, but it was significantly more than the Daytona.  Plus, the local Ducati dealer has done a few things lately that make me shudder at the thought of ever buying another bike from them.

And like other people have said on here, you will/would get used to the riding position of the sport bike in time.  I was in serious pain after the first few rides on the Daytona, it doesn't bother me anymore.

Where in northern Alabama are you moving to?  I am from the Hunstville area originally.

With Heli bars (and tires better suited to the street...particularly rainy Seattle) the 848 could be my only bike.  I really like the engine.  With the stock bars no way...I could never get comfortable with them.  That's just me though.

I like having the MTS too though.  ;D

DRKWING, it is funny that you bought the Daytona, my dealer is also a Triumph dealer and the day I went in to buy the 848 there was a blue Daytona sitting right out front and I started looking at it. It is a gorgeous bike and it seems like it is so small like you would be able to just flop it around without any effort, alas it had already been sold, in fact they did not have any in stock and the dealer said they were getting very hard to come by now. We talked some about the Daytona vs 848 and what each did well. I have no aversion to Triumphs in fact I really like the Speed and Street Triples but I have to admit that I now have an affinity for Ducatis. He made a pretty good deal on the 848 and it comes in white so that is the route I went.

I bought 116 acres in Woodville, halfway between Huntsville and Scottsboro. It is in a little place called Cotton Cove off of County Road 8.

Yea, I ended up getting one of two 675 Special Editions that made it into the islands.  I was originally wanting to look at the 848s, but they did not seem cost effective (what you get versus what you pay for) compared to the Daytona after I figured in the cost to ship it from California to Hawaii.  Funny thing is, my buddy and I swapped bikes for half a ride (he has a 999) and the first thing I thought when I sat on his was "shit, I made a mistake" simply because the ergos on the 999 were SO MUCH more comfortable than the Daytona.  But after riding it for as while I became content with my purchase.  The 999 is a good bit more stable than the 675 but DAMN the Triumph can turn in!  Took a bit to get used to at first, and it initially felt as if the bike would just fall all the way down to the pavement on its own.  But I have now gotten used to it and like the way it transitions more aggressively compared to the 999.

Sounds like you got a good piece of land there, almost enough to make yourself a nice track.  ;)  Where is the closest Duc service center, Birmingham?

I think all the rational stuff has been talked about.

And weren't you pulling some pretty good talent last year in Ouray on the Monster?

;)

B'Ham is the closest dealer at about a hundred miles, fortunately it is down some very nice roads if you go the back way down Lake Guntersville so it is not as if the ride will be a chore on bunch of superslab.

I understand all too well about it wanting to fall into a corner, the same thing happened to me on a slow right hander. I was accustomed to how my Monster handled, well the 848 acted like it already knew what I wanted and just went ahead and dropped in, I had to stand on the gas or risk low-siding my brand new scooter. I am convinced that the bike is capable of so much more than I can ride it too so when I get up to Alabama I am going to look into some track days to help hone my riding skills. I am certain that I can use all the pointers I can get.

I have never been on a 999 so I cannot comment on how it compares to the ergos on a 848/1098 but I know that while at first the riding position seemed odd compared to my Monster, now it seems perfectly normal. It is all in what you get used to I suppose.

I wish I could build a track, maybe a mototcross/atv/mountain bike one for sure but only about half of it is flat the other half is reasonably steeply sided up the mountain. There is about a 400 foot elevation change from front to back which is something on the order of 2500 feet if I recall correctly. My brother already offered to come and cut the mountain bike trail but I think I am just going to buy a dirt bike and ride it over where I want the trail a few times and PRESTO mountain bike trail.

Dude, build it and I will come.  ;)
