A little hard to follow the diagnostic process.  Do you suspect a leaking head gasket (compression test comment?) or by tipping fuel directly into trumpets, do you suspect injectors not opening correctly??? hmmmm  ???

I wasn't there when that was done (pouring fuel), I was thinking some kind of injector problem.
But then I have just been told about hydralock, when a small amount of water is introduced into the chamber and cannot be expelled. That is why the compression test was suggested.

These are just things being suggested to me, so I am referring them on for debate and other ideas.
The information the better I guess. There will be an answer.

Petrol engines will cope with a little water.
Diesel fail miserably and can destroy the engine that is from my 4wd knowledge eg water crossings etc.

I think you would have had do drown the engine to do any damage.

But you said it ran previously with another ecu fitted?
Still points to an eleccy fault?

areo start or start you bastard is good to try just spray it in to the in take when cranking.

Thanks Rob,

It did run on another ECU, but then my ECU ran in Dannog's bike.
Then to confuse you more Frasers Wollongong Mecho Steve got it running on my DP ECU and said it ran perfectly.
After looking at it today there is apparently much black deposit on the header pipe pointing to burnt H2O.
Vince also said he had a look inside the top chamber and saw a black looking valve!

So all in all it is very confusing and is giving off so many different signals, it doesn't know if it's coming or going.

So it is running [thumbsup]
What did the mech find?
you don't have to admit to owner operator error on line ;D

Black soot in the exhaust valves sounds normal, just rich needs a good run.
If it is a head gasket it would possibly be oily black shite.
and blowing smoke :'(

Is it still playing up?

I have a compression tester if you need to borrow it. [thumbsup]

Could of it got through the air filter some how or is that a stupid thing to say ?
I got a monster and i aint afraid to use it !

Since this has begun it has not started in my hands.

It got started in the hands of George @ Flywheels, with another ECU.
First diagnosis was ECU screwed, owner not convinced.
I picked the bike up took my ECU to try in Dannog's, it worked so not an ECU problem.

It started in the hands of the Mecho down at Frasers.
Needed a bit of help though with the throttle and when it fired there was a big back fire and nice black smoke.
Ran for a test ride of about 10 k's, got back to shop tried to start it again got nothing.
Mecho Steve, said maybe starter motor but not sure, could also be bad sensor connections but all were checked I'm told.

Vince has looked at it today and checked every connection, no water, no obvious problem.
he got it started with a douse of fuel down the trumpets but said it didn't sound good, like it was running rough or only one cylinder running smoothly.
That's when eh had a peak with a little camera and saw the valve. Also the rough running which Steve said was not happening with him, it ran smoothly like he always knew it to run.

So I'm back at the beginning.

Sorry Mike to hijack your Desmo Clinic thread, I'll go somewhere else now.

Dannog

Matty, I'm remembering my misfiring problem with the M900 was an injector problem that I'm convinced was brought on by washing the bike (stupidly with hi-pressure).

mattyvas

Thanks Dannog,

After getting it running today, new plugs again but I think maybe the wrong ones.
It is starting again but much throttle persuasion is needed to do so, it runs pretty fine except down low.
Sounds like it is breaking down around 1500-2500 rpm, above that she rode pretty hard in the laneway at the shop.

So yes it feels like it might be a blocked or non operating injector of some sort.
Took the tank off to check fuel filter also, no water all good there.

More things eliminated.

Just thought I might mention- Took my bike to Desmo on the weekend to get a few things done. Michael did a great job and and was the only place that would do it for me on a Saturday! Highly recommend!

mattyvas

Excellent to know.
With another Mechanic or 2 leaving Flywheels I am sure Mike will find many more of us on his doorstep.
Especially that we can drop a bike off on a Saturday and pick it up the next week.

Nice work Mike  [thumbsup]
