Gents,
So today was 'make sweet love and talk dirty' to my new 696 (also known as waxing).  So here's some shots of the tank covers and seat off.  I didn't want to wax it with the covers on in fear of getting wax on the flat-finished bits.

Also - I noticed a slight oil weep coming from the vertical cylinder timing cover...We'll see what the dealer has to say; I guess the O-ring isn't seated properly.

Look at the below -- it appears your barclamp is doing some sort of levitating act...

Ya those metal things are just shrouds.  There's a bolt with a rubber dampner behind 'em that actually hold everything together.

How easy is it to take off the tank and what not? and how easy do you think it would be to custom paint those bits?

Its pretty easy - 10mins maybe ?  There are about 12 bolts that you need to remove, then the panels just slide off.  Im sure getting 'em painted would be a breeze - they seem to be of good quality and thickness.  I was shocked at how flimsy...err....'Weight Reduced' the front fender was though...Its honestly damn near soda bottle plastic.  But it is unsprung weight eh  [laugh]

You could send it out for custom paint and still ride it! How cool is that?

This Monster is really growing on me.

I would need to figure out the seat issue though. It was very uncomfortable for me  :-\

Anyone try Ducati's after market seat yet ?

That is a very interesting tank/airbox setup.  They did a good job of hiding the whole setup, I am very surprised they are not sellign a painted tank tho!

Does the tank go under the seat as well?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

No Disrespect you man. But my personal doesnt doesnt appeal to the 696. Well, at least not yet. We shall see what the aftermarket world does for the bike. I think I am still a 4V guy at heart.

About the same time you're dragging your knees through a series of tight left-right-handers on Sunday afternoon, some guy in white shoes is sweating a 3-foot putt. Go figure.

I sat on it today, seemed a bit softer than stock.

Didn't take it for a ride so I can't make any sort of educated comment.

The more I look at the 696, the more I like it.

Yes. I know. I'm a philistine.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

My issue was the angle of the seat. It felt like it was pushing me into the tank.

It's just your massive man junk AKA "munk" that's causing the issue. After a few hard stops you'll probably dent the tank, then you'll be fine.

Is the fuel cell hinged like other Monsters? Is it a lot of work now to get to the battery? Just wondering.

Thanks for posting those pics. I was very curious to see what it looked like under there...nice bike!  [thumbsup]
