I have a Shoei X-11 Yellow that I have worn for 3 years in rotation with about 10 other Helmets that I have . It fits me fine and I have no complaints about it.

I have only ( out of 15 Helmets that I have bought in the past 4 years ) tried on one Helmet . All the others have been bought on line and I by the same size in Arai when it was RX-7 or Quantum 2 or Shoei X-11 or RF-1000 or Suomy or Nolan and they all work.

You really should go with a bright color so that you stick out in traffic so you have a better chance to be seen by the motoring public.

Go find a color you like that is bright, make sure it is DOT and Snell approved and make sure it fits you. Wear it around the store for 15 minutes to make sure it doesn't give you a headache or have hot spots . It will feel foreign to you at first but make sure it is pretty snug so that when you have it secured it won't move forward or backward with any ease. It should be .....snug. Shake your head from side to side to make sure the Helmet doesn't move on you. If all these things seem ok , then buy it.

I always wear a silk Helmet liner . They cost around $15-$20 and will keep the inside of your helmet fresh and clean. Just rinse out the Helmet liner after each ride  ( which takes like 5 minutes ) and hang it to dry. All my Helmets look brand new on the inside . Don't forget a good pair of earplugs . The sound of the wind at 35 mph and faster will cause hearing loss . I like the ones that I got at a Fastenal store that sort of screw in to your ear and are on a very thin plastic cord . They can be used over and over by washing them after each use in soap and water . They cost $1.70.

Hope this helps.

I'm thinking of trying an Akuma helmet for my next one. I want to try out their spiffy new visors.

the akuma shells and their visors look nice, but im not into their graphics :(

DoubleEagle

It's not so much about the graphics .

If someone likes some thing and you don't , that doesn't make a Helmet any better or worse.

You want the Helmet to be seen in traffic, , to offer the best protection and fit,to feel comfortable , and offer creature comforts like good venting , good soft padding, easy to replace Visors, but it must be DOT and either Snell or the EU equivalent approval rating.
