Based upon information provided by consumers in the first half of 2008, Insurance.com reports that 68% of women have no traffic violations versus 64% of men.

Of those reporting violations, 30% of women have 1–3 traffic violations versus 33% of men, and 2% of women have 4+ traffic violations versus 3% of men.

The Official Numbers
According to TrafficSTATS, a risk analysis study by Carnegie Mellon for AAA in 2007, men have a 77% higher risk of dying in an accident compared to women. The study, using information from both the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National Household Travel Survey estimated fatalities per 100 million trips to be 14.61 for men and 6.53 for women. The total number of fatalities between 1999 and 2005 were 175,094 for men and 82,371 women.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 14,512 male drivers died in 2007 compared to 5,865 female drivers, and even though there tend to be more male drivers on the road than females, the numbers strongly support the TrafficSTATS report.

IT's very simple.

Women drive less than men and when in the car with their husband, most men drive.

moreover, ticket information is skewed because more women get out of tickets.  my wife has been pulled over 3 times for speeding and gotten off "with a warning" from a friendly cop.  i got pulled over once in the last 5 years going 42 in a 35 (wtf?) and got a ticket, and he did the whole walkaround to make sure there wasn't anything else he could nail me for.  (ticket was dismissed)

women are probably less aggressive drivers (assumption with not data to support)
women also seem to be less attentive drivers (a small amount of personal observation)
i would also speculate that aggressive drivers are more attentive drivers

however, despite being more attentive, aggressive drivers are probably more prone to (serious) accident, while less attentive drivers are more likely to have a lot of "Oops" accidents.

My thoughts exactly.  Also at play may be a higher level of confidence behind the wheel on the part of more men, where as women GENERALLY SPEAKING (my wife and a few of my female friends EXCLUDED) are less confident about operating a vehicle.  Driving style reflects confidence and dictates the likelyhood that a driver will find themselves in certain situations.  So more confident drivers will likely be more aggressive in certain traffic situations, which, given the laws of probability, will mean more eventual accidents.  In other words, let's not confuse confidence with lack of control.  I believe the really bad female drivers TEND to get into trouble due to a lack of control, where as the really bad male drivers get into trouble due to poor judgement.

Not that I know this for a fact but it seems to me here in DFW/TX that more women text while driving than men. Not that men don't do it but my personal observation is that a majority of women text and talk on cell phones more than men while driving.

Perhaps you notice the women because you're checking them out to see if they are hot?

I have nothing to say concerning men vs. women drivers.

Because some of it has already been said, and I refuse to clarify which statements I'm referring to.

As for Asians... living in Korea taught me that some stereotypes have a basis in reality. Holy crap! I got in a cab, and he proceeded to lay on the horn and make a left turn from the far right hand lane across about eight lanes.

Strangely, I only saw two or three accidents during my year there. I guess when everybody drives like a make the beast with two backstard you just learn to watch out for it. There were motorcycles on the sidewalks, too.
