Very generous of you!  I may just take you up on that.  I have family in NW FL, but depending on when I leave, it would put me there awfully late night.

I've never ridden near this distance in one sitting.   I did just order some Er-6i earbuds to try and cut down on the wind noise along the way.  I need GEAR now :D

Next Wednesday has isolated T-storms predicted for Houston.
But that's a week away.

Might want to get a rainsuit.

OTOH, your perf jacket will dry out quick.  ;D

What's your budget for touring gear?

$500 ish?

I have a set of klim pants, bought to do DS riding and get dirty.  They are vented though, and the temps said in the low 70s.  Then again, it's been awhile since I've been on a faired bike at all, so I'm unsure about the amount of wind protection.

I could spend DAYS on advrider and still not know what to get.  I do know that an aerostich suit really isn't in the budget at the moment.

What sizes do you wear? I might have some stuff you can borrow. On short notice and low budget, Frogg Toggs are cheap and easy.

I'm scanning ebay, seems the kiliminjaro first gear jacket is pretty decent, looks like I could snag on of those and a set of pants for around 350-400 (or less if I find a used set)

Deposit sent  ;D

Now I've got to get my shit in order quick.  Next week on wed I'll be flying out from ATL to IAH and riding the sucker back.  I have no touring gear, a DP jacket with a zip in wind liner (jacket is perforated).

I plan on getting some heated gear eventually, but I really don't want to dick with trying to hook anything up like that on the road.

I need some decent touring sheoot now I guess  ;D

just get a one piece rainsuit to go over your regular gear. with wet weather gloves and boots or covers for the boots. you'll have plenty of luggage space :D to carry it when you aren't using it

oh and since i didn't get the ST4 you have to create some half fairings and build the bike i wanted to do ;)

[snip]  Frogg Toggs are cheap and easy.

+1

Much more comfortable to wear than a vinyl rain suit.  I picked mine up at Gander Mtn.  Should also have them at Bass Pro and the like.

Congrats on the purchase!!   [moto]

Sounds like a nice little adventure.
I almost hoping when I find a ST it's far enough away to do the same thing.
How are you handling a tag?  Just taking tag off a bike you have or getting some type of temp tag?

Congrats on the bike, and +1 on the Frogg Toggs. Buy the pants quite long if you go that route; I used the ones I had for hiking once, and in riding position they only came down to the middle of my shin.

I found bad reviews of the Kili.  I bought Olympia's AST for $299 from Revzilla and love it.  Slightly more than the Kili, but they offer tall sizes.  I would get the tall size.  I am 6'4" and much bigger around.  I got the 2xl and it fits perfect, even with a fleece under it.  I would recommend the XL tall.

I have a cheapie pair of Firstgear overpants with a liner.  I got them from Almost New last year for really cheap, but they aren't that great.

I currently have a 2002 ST4S it is awesome!  I get about 43mpg, the only thing about the bike I don't like is the bars are a little too low for extended touring.  But if you change it then it is going to be too high for sporty riding.  So I have decided to deal with it.  [thumbsup]
I just got mine back from the 12K service no flaking rocker issues just some opening and closing shims.  It runs much smoother after the tune-up also installed a set of Pirelli Diablo Stradas.  The bike handles very well and pulls like a freight train!   [moto]

Yikes!  I knew there were some bad, but I read a lot of good stuff on advrider.  The new kili 5.0 is supposed to be much better than the last few versions, more akin to the original.  Hopefully it will be :)

3D cycle up in Maine gave me a screaming deal, $340 shipped for the jacket and pants.  I wanted the day-glo, but it was all sold out.  Black/grey.  I needed something for some colder (40's and up) weather anyway.
