Hi guys,

Can someone with a bit of Monster knowledge give me some advice on fairing?

I have a 2008 695 & want to put a fairing on it.  Would a earlier fairing from a late 90's 900 fit on?  I'm not worried about the brackets, but was more concerned about the light size.  I'm guessing that the headlights are the same size?

Cheers

I'm almost certain that the light size has not changed until the 696 and 1100 bikes - you should be good. There's also a couple of aftermarket fairing options that might offer more wind protection or a different look.

I'm no fairing expert - I took mine off as i prefer the look without (and all it did was direct wind off my chest and into my helmet). I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences.

The fairings on the earlier Monsters (I'm thinking hoop rear end?) were a different shape I think ... but I don't know any specifics.

Were the fairings a stock item on the earlier Monsters?

They certainly were, but the H/L is the same size. As well as the fairing is wider and a little "old school". The later type Post 2000 (I think) was easily fitted to the earlier types (Pre 2000) as I fitted one to the  97 750. Dunno 'bout the 695.  ???

Explore the accessory sites and see if what they list is listed seperately for your model as compared to the previous bikes??  ;D  [thumbsup]

Thanks guys,

yes, I'm more after the old school cafe racer look & have found a 900 fairing on fleabay at a good price.  still in two minds about it....I was going to change the headlight but found it to be too much of a pain to fit & keep everything neat & tidy.

I really only want the fairing to cover the instrument panel & hide some of the wiring behind the headlight, so smaller the better.

the later bikini fairing is easily the best looking one, in my opinion anyway, and they all mount to the headlight bracket easily. strange though, the S4 mounts are different to the S4R ones and were much easier to get the fairing on and off. shift tech do one in carbon which is nice, i was thinking of painting my stripe on it and leaving the carbon exposed, i have a screen around for the late shape one if you need it.
cheers,
paul.

Thanks Paul,

I had a look at the Shift Tech web site & they dont list a fairing for the 695's any more.  There seems to be quite a few on ebay so I might try & pick one up at the right price......I'd prefer not to pay big $$ for carbon as I'll paint it to match the bike anyway!

What model is your screen from?  Send me a message & let me know how much you want for it.

Found this which might be an option (the chrome will have to go!)

and whilst you're in there, behind the right bracket is a electrical cable loom/connector, move it/pivot it out of the way and you won't have all those bloody cables hanging down from the right headlight mount. It's a small thing but makes the bike look neater. I'm guessing only MattyV will know what i'm talking about, we share a weirdness!

Thanks for that....yes I've already had a play with rearranging the wiring to try & hide some of it....little things bug me to!

Found this site which has a range of different screens.  No distributor in Aust, but I'm getting some costs from the US.

Hi Tony
I just bought a replacement screen for my fairing from this bloke (can't find a website)

Might be worth having a chat to him.

Thanks Heather...yes I've had a look at their web site last week.

I've finally settled on the Puig Raptor which is pretty reasonably priced at $140 landed.  I wanted something pretty cheap (not cause I'm a tight arse!) as I'll probably had to mod it a bit to suit I want & then will paint it to match.  I'm still not sure how it will fit in my bars & its hard to tell when you buy online & all you have is a pic to go by.

Will post some pics when its done!
Cheers

That's a nice looking screen.  Should look real good on a monster I think.  [thumbsup]

tonymtber

I hope so! [thumbsup]

Yeah I spent hours searching on the net to find something a bit smaller than the factory one but still with a good look.
I was also keen on the "wave" style from the same company, but its a fair bit bigger.
