Engineering contacts

I'm looking to exploit my undergrad degree. I've got a Bach of Science in Mechanical Engineering, graduated honors and all that, and the EIT certification (passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam). I'm planning on taking the patent bar over the winter, which will give me the additional designation of "Patent Agent".

Been in Law School for a little over a year now. I've done well (perhaps even better than I anticipated in the first semester), but its not what I want to do. I'm realizing I want to do the actual engineering and creation of intellectual property more than I want to push papers for the guys who did the fun stuff.

If any one has contacts in the area in the engineering field, please PM me. I am very interested in things that move (obviously), like motos, cars, trucks, trains, planes, whirlybirds, earth movers, and heavy machinery. I've got lab experience from a consulting firm in Nashville, design experience in CAD doing piping runs, pressure calcs, and the like.

Let a brotha know. Excuse the lack of moto content in this post, I'll attach some machined parts pics to make up for it:

Similar situation here (ME, Honors, EIT).  Working at an engineering firm but want to change fields.  Sorry to threadjack, maybe we can tag-team some sh*t.  [thumbsup]

Sounds good to me. Here's to hoping the economy starts doing lots and lots and lots better quickly. [beer]

Are you interested in relocating?  My sister runs HR for a small space development firm in Tucson.  It is an awesome place to work.  They are currently looking for quality engineer, materials and process engineer, thermal engineer, senior systems engineer and an environmental control and life support systems engineer (I have no idea what any of that means).

I got no pull with the hiring, but happy to put you in touch.  PM me if interested.

So, what do we want to do...  (EE, EIT, no honors but minors in Math, CompSci, and could have had physics but i didnt want to be held responible for the stuff I was suppose to learn).

20 years of experience (Damn, when did I get that old, really I graduated when I was 10  [cheeky]) mostly software  and management experience...

I think we should all learn from the Sam Adams commercials and start a beer business.. they all look so happy.... [drink]

No, because you will sell stuff that doesn't exist yet, and not even in our market...  [bang]

If and when the economy recovers, we should start up a Harley dealership and not involve Dax.

Some may call me older... I prefer wiser....  (ok, not wise enough)

Stay in school...  finish... it is only another year? year & a half?

Chump change in comparison to the DECADES that you are going to be working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to break this to you but...

  • Jobs are tight out there... getting better but the business are offering low $ trying to find some bargins...  You will have to find another job when the economy turns around because you will never make up the pay difference by hard work when you started low
  • Dollars spent are dollars spent.  The ROI on the dollars already spent are ZERO.  You will be just walking away from that investment.  But then most of us working folks have walked away from that from our investments during that same time too
  • 5 years down the road, when you regret this, it will be WAY harder to go back.  You will have car payments, house payments, bike payments, bambino payments...  You are so close now...  keep the faith...

I think you had a good plan, I would say stay the course... the  years of work ahead of you are many...

Yes, half way through - another 3 semesters. Just tough to sit down and do the math about paying back what loans I did have to take out for SMU (I received Dean's Scholarship, covers a lot), and the issues with the legal market: Recent graduates and future graduates are competing against the 'talent' that the big firms laid off when finances ran dry for very little legal work, and the average salary is dropping (starting salaries are looking like they'll be below what I could make as an engineer). YIKES. This is not what I bargained for when I undertook this 'adventure'.

But it did get me to DFW and a kickass local riding community.

So now, as I read briefs and do research for one of the Justices at the Court of Appeals, I find myself missing drafting, doing math, figuring out the pressure losses in piping, how far out the elephant could walk down a plank before breaking it, etc.

i will go door-to-door if required. in the guise of a mormon (a la the movie Orgazmo where he fell into a starring role in a pornographic movie, but regularly required a "stuntpart").

DISCLAIMER
*Not intended to offend any Mormons, friends or acquaintances of Mormons, or anybody who may in the future become a Mormon. Talking about door-to-door soliciting here, the adult entertainment industry, and a unique intersection of the two (three?) in the movie.
