Thanks again for all the concern and well wishing.

Man I feel like sh*t this morning.  To answer some of your questions.

1.  Yeah.  I wanted to kick his arse just as bad as you would have.  However, I spent 10 years of my life training pretty much daily to be able to control my responses and emotions in high adrenaline situations.  So while pounding this 17 year old into a puddle was on my mind, I realized it would not help me get a new bike and I focused my attention on what would help me get a new bike instead.

2.  I locked the rear wheel...though I didn't have enough time or room to do much about it...which is how I lost the rear end.

3.  I swerved left into the on coming traffic.  This was pretty calculated though.  I could see about 400 yards down the street and their was no on-coming traffic.  Had I had enough room to properly execute the swerve (without all the severe braking) I would have gone around him.  He was making the right at the T intersection so turning that way would have had me still in his line and probably caused a collision.  I was really just trying not to hit any cars.  I figured a dismount was gonna be ok at that speed as long as I didn't hit a car or get run over.

Other thoughts.

Gear that worked.  Alpinestars SPS Gloves, Alpinestars AS Stages Perf. Jacket. Both worked great.  I was also wearing Aria Profile, Shift kevlar jeans and Alpinestars boots but they did not take any real punishment.  lesson...GEAR UP. [thumbsup]

I have a fair amount of training in "slowing things down" in high stress situations and even at just 30mph....this happened very fast!  I did have time to analyze my escape route but not enough to even release a locked rear brake.  I have raced in the SCCA and instruct high performance driving and race licensing and spend a lot of time at the track (in cars).  I probably see several accidents every year and am personally the car for 3-6 spins or off track excursions (in students cars)...and this still happened very fast.  I have seen sand pits and guard rails coming at me fast but this was really quick.  Whole thing couldn't have taken more than a 1-3 seconds.  Very little reaction time.

that stinks. glad you're ok...how much does the whiskey have to do with how you feel though?  [cheeky]

i had a kid jump out into the road at me and it scared me enough to lock the front wheel. i got up and chased him to a convinience store where he was begging for help and scared shitless. i walked over to the cop sitting in the parking lot and explained what had heppened. that kid's family and the families of the other 2 that were with him got deported shortly after that. (they lived in the same complex as i did)

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Amazingly not hung-over this AM.  Pretty damn sore though...neck, shoulders, wrists.

I would like to have this kid deported...but he's from here...still if I could send him to some third-world backwater that would be great.

Talked to Geico rep and made "recorded statement".  Made sure to use the word illegal several times and mention I am going to Dr. tomorrow.  Spoke with the drivers mother...who seems fairly normal...(he is in trouble).

I should hear more about the claim tomorrow.

Speedy recovery, RD, and congrats on your good reflexes.

As for the driver, possibly the best outcome (aside from a lot more legal ramifications than it sounds like he's facing  :() would be for the memory to haunt him forever of the day he ALMOST killed someone, and for him to remember it with dread every time he gets behind the wheel.

Do you have health insurance to cover all the medical bills? That is going to be expensive.. I hope you do,  [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

Yeah, I got insurance if his isn't gonna pick up the tab.

I really hope they are gonna pick up the tab though.

Wasn't he cited in the incident?

If he was his insurance should be involved. Have you contacted them with his policy number?

Give the kid a call and threaten legal action if you don't hear something soon. Should scare him enough   ;)
I'll update this later at a convenient time Thank you for tuning in.....

raulduke

His insurance (Geico) is stepping up to the plate...totaling my bike (picking up tomorrow) and paying me to sign medical waiver. ;D

Hopefully I will have a new monster by the end of next week.
