2 bikes / 1 spot

I saw this today in the financial district. It was actually a scooter and motorcycle side by side. The bike was so close to the scooter, there is no way the rider could get his leg on the ground between them.

Vote on the most likely thing going on and let me know if it's more common than I think. (Hint: I think hope it's quite a unique and special occurrence)

Personally, if I were the meter maid, I'd ticket both just to make sure I got the one who tried to skip out on parking. If they were working together, all the better. Yeah, I'm a hard ass.  [evil]

Was the parking bay full? This used to happen a lot, before the MTA tripled rates for motorcycles and people started using private garages. Some folks would get there early and park...then the scooters would come along and park between the bikes because there were no spots left. This happened to me a few times...I made sure to leave the offending scooter in the middle of the street...hey, I had to take it out so I could get my bike out  ;D

I saw that video.  It was gross, but people's reactions were just awesome.   [evil]

Yeah, I was thinking that there was going to involve used brake fluid, a Mity-vac and a couple of clapped out Ducs...

(OK, my take on this--seen it a few times--scooter guy is not going to be there long.  He parks in an illegal spot, jumps off, and is going to the dentist or meeting or something.  I'm not sure I've ever heard about a parking ticket being issued for this ever.  Not sure why...)

I think parking sharing should be defined as the union of a scooter and a car. Anything else sins against Man and Nature.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Amazing how that is now such a huge part of pop culture. I have seen it referenced in so many places. I expect it to be in the trivial pursuit 2000s edition.

While I was at a job a few years ago three of us motorcyclists used to share one car space. It was tight, but it worked and we all just dealt with it. In the end it was just nice to all have a spot in a good location.

that's totally different. This was one of those skinny spots made for aaaaa motorcycle. There was about 1 inch between the scooter and the kickstand of the motorcycle. If I ever find someone squeezed up next to me in my spot, I'll flip. If they worked it out together, different story.

Not even close. With the cold and rain these days, it's at 10% capacity in front of my building.

I agree. I saw a meter maid ticketing a scooter that was parked on the street perpendicular to and in between 2 parked cars. He was on the line between the 2 spots. It bothered me as a cager and a biker. As a cager, I like bikes going out of their way to park creatively and not taking up a spot big enough for a car. As a biker, I think car meters are for cars.

If your panties are in a bunch about tight moto parking, just skip Italy:
