Maybe not the right tread for this but Sac Duc made me think of something.

My grandfather died last week. I spent 50% of my childhood with him. He worked his life as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney. Came from a poor farming community in south Georgia to the ritz of south Florida. He never drove a nice/new car. Raised his family in a three bedroom house in a regular neighborhood. He could give a shit about having anything materialistic. He was a deacon and sunday school teacher at our church for 30 years. He lived for his family. He looked for people in need and helped them. If there was something he had and somebody needed it, he could not get it to them fast enough.

So, like Sac questions so do I - Why do we kill ourselves in jobs working 60 hrs a week, never taking a vacation; to climb the latter and do the look what I have, look what I achieved.

It's not a new story, people have been in this same boat for a while. I guess you just have to find your own answer.

That's what has been in my head this week.

Yesterday a tweaker OD'd in our parking lot. A shit I did not give. I called 911 and the whambulance came and took him away......... but he was lucky I didn't kick him in the neck while he was down.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

did he ever steal anything from you?

It would have been a preemptive kick. The friend of the guy who got carted away yesterday.... was back to dealing in the parking lot today.

A buddy of mine who used to sell drugs, OD'd 3 weeks ago.  When he started selling drugs a couple months ago I told him it was absolutely RIDICULOUS and that he was an idiot. He told me that he was "too smart for the cops", so I told him to loose my phone number.

He called me from the hospital two weeks ago, told me what happend, and I couldn't even bring myself to say "I told you so"

It made me so sad, and I felt a little bit responsible.  For the last week or so, everytime I see a bum or drug addict (which is frequently because I have been volunteering in a public hospital in Newark) I can't help but think that these people are someones child, someones mother or father, someones friend... and NOGAS.  I say a silent prayer and just keep going.  What else can I do?  It's like I have to not give a shit or I will go crazy...

That's exactly what you have to do.

You are not responsible for their decisions

You simply treat them and move on to the next one

Ummm just TRY to get someone help and into care or institutionalization....

they have a "right" to live on the streets and destroy themselves no matter how documented crazy they are...

the most support I ever got for a younger sister was 30 days...

and that was after I had a squadron of medical professionals from the local hospital come in and testify at her competency hearing

the state and federal governments are not interested in spending tax funds housing the sickest members of our society...except for some of the violent forensics

they need that revenue for pretend jobs for bureaucratic patronage systems
This is an insult to the Pez community

not quite so conspiracy theory related....   many of the same people who cry that we don't do enough for the homeless also are the ones leading rather large lawsuites about not "detaining" (their word) them.   I have found it's mostly pressure from bottom up, not top down.  Of course if housing for mentally ill weren't so deplorable those fights wouldn't have happened.  There are millions in fed grants all the time... we (local jurisdiction) just lost one because nobody could get their thumbs out of their asses to decide what to do with the $.
