A hottie in a car that drove by me.  

My wife. She was in our minivan with our kids and her friend Alexia. They were my chase car, so to speak. Even though that was one of the few times that we were actually on the highway close to each other. We traveled separately most of the way.

See, I went to San Diego on business. I had to be there to do some filming for corporate interviews and presentations at one of my client's annual partner meeting (me behind the camera, that is; not in front). And since my client is paying for the travel and for the hotel, I invited my family to have a fun vacation in San Diego while I was there working.

Sounds like a good ride! How'd your MP3 player work out?

I love my iPod. I've never had one before, and now I can't image a road trip without it.

I don't know if you remember our trip to Sedona that one time, I lost my radio on the way out of Cottonwood. I always used to just have a radio; never an MP3 player. I like NPR and so I'll listen to that every morning while I jog. But an iPod has both a radio and an MP3 player! And the FM reception is fantastic.

The ear phones, however, are horrible on an iPod. Well, at least for helmets. They're actually really nice ear phones, but you'll need to use a different pair for motorcycle rides. The Marshmallow Headphones are a nice, cheap substitute that will stay in your ear the whole time.

That iPod sounds like a good choice. Can you download podcasts to it?
Were those ear phones comfortable inside your helmet (I assume they were since you didn't say "geez, my ears hurt")
Did they cancel out the road noise decently? As good or better than regular ear plugs?

At first I tried using the iPod headphones in my helmet and I couldn't get them to stay in most of the time, and when I did they really hurt my hear. But when I switched to the marshmallows both those problems were instantly solved.

The "fitted" style headphones are probably the best. I don't own any, and I can't compare. But I will say that I heard the music well enough with the marshmallows. And since they're cheap at Walmart, I don't plan on switching from them.

Oh, and podcasts: yes, you can. You can put on movies, tv shows, pod casts, music, etc.

Hey Michael,

I use my mp3 player a lot when I ride and have found that the ear buds made by Sony work well too. They are a bit more expensive $30-40, but worth it for the sound quality that you get.
