Speed cameras and unmarked bikes in QLD

Is this what the Hwy patrol are using up there.
Have read about the unmarked bikes before.
And just not fair play with unmarked bikes.
Looks like revenue raising to me.


I meant to get this out prior to the Easter break. It is a list I received from one of our members of numerous unmarked police vehicles (cars & bikes) doing the rounds in South East Qld. Keep a close eye out.

Yeah mate and they have a few others as well. Plus they are using relatively unmarked speed cameras now on the side of the road.

The other cars are mostly Subarus and a couple of Honda's.

I have not heard of a Porsche, a Golf or a Hummer. I know they have at least 1 Chrysler, but it's black and is being used in the Southern Region around Toowoomba and down as far as Fernvale but of course they could move it anywhere.

The bikes, well I don't know what brands they have but I would doubt as many as they say here. I thought there were only about 4 at most.

They are being used on the M1 and around the Brisbane area. The situation with the bikes would be interesting.
They would still need to have the red ad blue lights on board front and rear. They would need LED's of course, but anyone with a good eye could easily pick them. Plus the rider would need to carry some sort of 'police' illuminated sign, other wise without red and blue lights and a decent identification people would simply not stop.

I know I wouldn't, and you would easily get away with it because there are any number of idiots around trying to impersonate coppers.

I really doubt they would have a Hummer mate because they use mountains of fuel and are not really a speed machine, nor is there any resale value.

They do use Maloo utes and there are thousands of Aurions around. The Aurion is a standard buy car for the coppers so now they are everywhere.

All that is needed is to keep a good eye out,
If you choose to speed a huge amount over the limit. They are generally not looking for the 10 to 15 k over, they are looking for the 20 + over the limit before they will take the trouble to initiate an interception.

They all have the little white radar on the drivers side of the windscreen. They all have the red/blue lights at front and rear, although the rear ones are inside the tinted windows and sometimes hard to see.

They are all still registered in the 10th month and they all have the toll transponder in the middle of the windscreen.

They will only buy cars that have a good resale value, that is Anna's broken arse crap again but good for us. They only buy new cars, never use old cars because of the resale and the fact they might be in bad shape if they get in a chase.

The speed cameras are in Nissan or Toyota ute style contraptions with canopies, BUT there is a spotlight mounted on the towbar used as a flash so they must take rear on shots. Very easy to see. Basically, if you see ANY car parked at the side of the road especially if parallel and on flat ground, then treat it as suspicious

And once again it proves that Qld is pushing the wheel barrow of Speed to the Detriment of all other
aspects of Road Safety, make the beast with two backs I can not wait to leave this Stupid State!

I was telling some of the guys here on Friday about a political party in British Columbia (where I'm from) that got voted into power after promising to get rid of the speed cameras.  They won so hard that no one since then will touch the issue, seeing it as a sure-fire way to get voted out of office tout suite.

I can't say I expect to see any similar moves in Australia.  It seems to me you've only got one political party with one set of motives and plans, but with two different names.

they have 2 white VE commodore utes, white with white canopies, 2 FG falcon utes, white with white canopies. a silver VW golf and i've also seen a white rodeo ute, again, with a white canopy. they all have the spotlight obscuring the number plate (thought that was illegal, even when parked??) and if they're parked on the side of the road they face the same direction as the traffic flow so they get the front plate on cars.
It's pretty grim when the police union states their disgust with the program publicly claiming it's "nothing but revenue raising".

Huh? So in QLD the camera device is mounted on the rear of the enforcement enrichment vehicle, clocking approching vehicle's front number plates??  Begs the question: So what have you got to worry about then??  [moto]

Pretty soon, they'll get smart and mount the camera on the front end so that motorcyclists too can contribute to the fund.  I wont tell em if you dont  .

only the new sneaky ones because of the ease of placing the spot light on a tow bar hitch apparently, the regular speed camera vans and hilux' get the rear plate mostly and they tend to hide them well.

With the Bride and I doing the grand trek down to Tasmania, We are almost resigned to the fact that one of us
will get a speeding fine somewhere along the way (I head down a few weeks prior to the wife)
we have Subscribed to Tom Tom's Safety Camera service on our Nav system, but that won't tell you where the
Mobile Cameras and unmarked cars are hiding.
And when we drive into Victoria we will set the Cruise controls in both cars a couple of K's below the posted speed limit
(Even more so on Citylink in Melbourne)

But there will be somewhere where Plod will be hiding 50 Meters inside a speed zone change and ping you that way, or being
unfamiliar with some areas I expect no matter how vigilant you are there will be a sneaky Plod waiting to bend you over the
bonnet and F you in the A.

It's almost taking the fun out of Driving and riding, you have to watch your Speedo constantly, How is that safe?
How is being a couple K's over the limit on a perfectly flat straight piece of road going to be unsafe?
Thankfully in Qld they have not gotten as Anal as trying to ping people for being only a couple of K's over the limit, but
I wonder how long before it is going to happen?

Have spotted 2 Kwaka big fairing road bikes (i think they're GTR1400's or something) with  on them.
I know there are two because they were both together  on the side of the road outside Meadows.

My Navigator saved me in Vic last year with speed camera locations.
At least in NSW they are sign posted just remember to slow down DOH.
My navigator, Destinator software on a pda actually has the preferred sights for  parked Mobile speed cameras as well saved me in Brisvegas.

And in Vic if you see people waving at you vigorously coming from the other direction there not being friendly there alerting you to a  parked mobile camera car, saved me again.
The thing that gives me the shits the most is school zones if you forget the time,  and if in  an unfamiliar area a real trap.

I try to keep to the posted speed limits in the cage as best as possible when traveling.
But with the multitude of speed variations and if you miss a speed sign bad luck.
I have given up stressing about getting caught some ridiculous infringement.
If i get home with out a ticket in the mail well all good.

NFG's post said it we need to stick together and take action.

I think we are gutless and bend over to easy and take it up the ars!!
Something will have to give soon with all these Nanny state laws.
The media are the fist ones who should be taken out and shot at dawn. with all there sensational storeys on speeding making the government act on kneejerk laws.

I remember reading somewhere between Cairns and Brisbane about the amount of Speed changes on the Highway
Some extraordinary number (500 to 600?) I remember Porsche said when they release a new model in
Australia they will now avoid Queensland because it makes driving in Queensland Unsafe due to the constant
fluctuations in the speed limit and having to waste so much time staring at the speedo, not to mention downright Boring.

As soon as I can when driving to Tasmania we are going via the inland roads, We would go inland at Cairns if
we could, but the Developmental road is mainly dirt until someplace just west of Mackay, Most Truckies I know
have said it is still patrolled by plod (not as much as the coast road though) not that we intend to speed or do anything
stupid, it apparently has longer stretches at 100 KPH and has much less traffic.

just under 12 weeks and I can leave this dumb ass State!

just a quick FYI, on Tony Delroy's night life on ABC local radio (About 10PM EST) they are having a discussion with a guy from KPMG
about how Australia is becoming a nanny nation with so many new laws being constantly brought in to "Protect us from ourselves"
Me thinks I will tune in with much interest.
